Oxfam Staff Paid For "Full-On Caligula Orgies" With Haiti Earthquake Survivors

Submitted by: littlemissqt 6 months ago in News & Politics

Senior Oxfam staff, including former Haiti Director Roland van Hauwermeiren (pictured above), reportedly paid for "full-on Caligula orgies" with survivors of the devastating 2010 Haitian earthquake. An investigation by The Times of London revealed multiple aid workers paid earthquake survivors for sex, including some who could have been underage.

The charity has been accused of covering up the scandal by allowing three men to resign and firing four others for gross misconduct. One of the men who was allowed to resign, van Hauwermeiren, was given a "phased and dignified exit" for fear of damaging the charity’s reputation. Prostitution is illegal in Haiti and the age of consent is 18, but Oxfam didn’t report any of the incidents to the Haitian authorities because "it was extremely unlikely that any action would be taken."

All they were doing was trying to raise the people out of poverty by paying them for work done. And I bet they got to come inside for the festivities.

It appears that the economic “stimulus” program that the charity instituted met some legal hurdles.
I didn’t provide my name and email so I couldn’t read the entire article.  They aren’t a Church and I didn’t see where they used donations to fund the “orgy” and they called the participants “prostitutes” so it seems they weren’t subjugating victims.  Aside from participating in an illegal but otherwise (semi) victimless crime (assuming the underage thing is invalid) they got caught in a socially discouraged activity and that’s about it.

I can’t imagine what would have happened if these horndogs did some disaster relief in Thailand:)

To be fair, he did better than the Nepalese, who killed more than the quake did by bringing cholera with them.

Looked oxfam america up on charity navigator.
they are not that bad.  78% of donations go straight to needy people.

there are better out there, but there are a ton of worse places to send your money

Cover up?  No Way!  Couldn't happen!
When has ANY non-profit organization covered up a sex scandal?

Is prostitution illegal in Haiti?   If not as long as they
didn't use the charity funds, fuck it, not my business.

As for the charity "covering up"... they fired them,
they didn't keep them on staff and hush-hush it.
