Is There Any Fast Food Restaurant You Absolutely Would Never Eat At, Even If You Were Starving?

Submitted by: littlemissqt 4 months ago in Lifestyle Misc

They could be like “Hey we giving away free food… and we’ll bring it to you, you don’t even have to stand in line!” I know it depends partly on if your local restaurant has its shit together or not, but I’d sooner eat brown rice cooked with my own urine than eat from any Arby's.

I don’t fuck with Arby's whatsoever. I don't even look at the restaurant when I drive by one.

White Castle. Most disgusting "food" I've ever tasted. I ate there once and it literally made me sick.

If I was starving? Well no. Even if I wasn't starving I won't avoid one, except when there's a queue (line for Americans).

Long John Silver's is the nastiest food you could ever eat. I live in Indiana, they are all over the place up here. I don't know where else they are but if you ever see one.....run away, very far away.

rukittenme Totally agree about LJS.  The smell of that place will kill a charging elephant. I dunno how people can sit in there and eat.  Everything is coated with a thin film of fish grease.

KFC, Taco Bell, and and pizza chain. KFC's food does not have a good taste to it all, and I can find better chicken at just about any other Fast Food place. As for Taco Bell, you wouldn't pay me to go there, had a bad experience once from the food, and never been back there since. And the pizza chains all have shitty pizza, there are a couple of local pizza places near I live and they have amazing food all around.

KFC. i went to one once, in Salisbury Massachusetts, in 1977. It was filthy and smelled like rotted food. I just turned and walked out, and I never set foot in another one again.

Never done Taco Bell and I intend to keep the streak alive.  I've also given up on my local KFC.  They gave a me a chicken sandwich that had a cold chicken patty.  Not just room temp but cold...like 42 degrees.  I mean if you're going to serve me left-over chicken could you at least do me the courtesy of heating it up again.

Papa Johns...it has always given me the shits regardless of the location.  I think it is their prepped dough.  It's to the point where I pass it up even if it is free.

And that is sad because Pizza should always be edible regardless of how poorly made it is...it's FUCKING PIZZA!

Hhhmmmm...If I we’re starving...Starving is a pretty strong word. I would bet most people would eat at any fast food if they were truly starving....I would have to say though..The most vile I would have to point out is White Castle...I mean WTH! They don’t even serve burgers. They serve a type of meat muck with onions that is spread onto a tiny bun...Its so nasty..The best place to get a fast food type of burger is gonna be the one and only Whattaburger ( Its a little Texas treasure) lol

pinkminx22 to be honest, sliders shouldn’t be consumed before 1 am by anyone with less than a .18 bac - that’s why they are open all night.  On the plus side they come right out the next day (hence the name “slider”).

I would kill for a whataburger covered in jalapeños right now:)

If I were starving, there is very few things I would not eat.

But, there are places I avoid:
  • Starbucks: don't drink coffee...nor that crap they advertise as coffee.
  • Taco Hell: never been that shitfaced.
  • Chipotle: crappy food, hipster attitude.
  • Popeyes: not the best yardbird in the land. Adding faux Cajun to it does not improve it.
  • Captain D's: yes, I'll take my plate of grease with a side of hushpuppies .

megrendel I'm not a fan of Starbucks in general, but if you don't drink coffee then you can't call it crap.  The blond unsweetened black cold brew available in grocery stores is a damn fine flavorful coffee.

kalron27  if you don't drink coffee then you can't call it crap.

Not saying the beverages they serve are crap. Just saying I don't consider it coffee.

Coffee is beans & water, peculate until hot and strong.  The minute you add anything with the terms 'milk', 'soy', 'frap', or 'pumpkin spice' it no longer meets what I consider 'coffee'.

I DO go to Starbucks, to pick up some for my wife. I have it written down: Grande' Caramel-Frap, Lite w/Cream and two Splendas.  I can't hack it, but she loves it.

The Rally's/Checkers chain (the one near my house at least).  The burger patties were tiny, dry and flavorless.  Also, the lazy and/or ignorant people working there always screw up the order.  I haven't been back there for many years.

The Golden Corral (buffet style restaurant).  I just don't like the idea of eating food that's been sitting out for god knows how long that dozens of people have had the chance to paw at.

I will never eat at a shop where you can apply the word 'chain' to the name.

Also, if they say burger's they are fucking out. In Oz, your local fish and chip shop is the only place to get a proper hamburger, unless you make them yourself.

Also if the restaurant uses Bain-Marie's or if they have installed Sneeze Guards to anything, then  I am out!

stifler that is admirable.  but i just did a cross country trip, and let me tell you, the independent mom and pop restaurant/diner is rapidly disappearing from the land.  You are simply FORCED to eat at a KFC/Sonic/McDonalds on a long road trip, because otherwise you would actually starve.

IF you have a local place to eat...make sure you support them!  Go there often, because the trend is they all go out of business, and some crap chain store replaces them.  What do you want to do when you go cross country  in a car....see how the food tastes the same from TGI Fridays to TGI Fridays across the land???  Bletch

spanz Hadn't thought about it that way! But you are right, when I did many and varied odd stints in the USA and Canada, I always ate (breakfast mainly) at those stereotypical places 'diners' I suppose they were.

I will always remember eggs-bene in Canada at one mum/dad place - best I have ever had. Same with a full fry up at a USA diner, again little m/d shop. Same types of place where coffee was free and they were (sometimes too much) checking that I was 'all good' !!
Good  times.

In OZ, its smaller restaurants or fish/chip/deli shops. I really do enjoy a FRESH baguette with chicken/cheese/lettuce/mayo on it and all knowing that all that stuff is real and 100% -- no fillers :-D I love food!! lol

Not a restaurant, per se, but even if hungry, I wouldn't eat free food from Cold Stone Creamery. That's an ice cream chain that produces sickeningly sweet ice cream that seems to be designed to bring on type 2 diabetes. Imagine a normal bowl of ice cream that has had an additional 2 cups of granulated sugar added to it and then another cup of cake frosting and candy mixed into it.

If the thought of eating that doesn't make you sick, it should.

Above: Cold Stone Creamery's Candy Land Signature Creation ice cream treat. In the "Gotta Have It" size (the Cold Stone Creamery name for a large), it packs 1,720 calories. And get this: It doesn't even taste good.

Update: I was pleased to find that one writer at Salon agrees with me. Justin Peters, an ice cream aficionado, describes CSC ice cream as "nauseatingly sweet and vaguely artificial." He asks (as I do), "Who, besides 7-year-olds, actually likes this stuff?"

squrlz4ever I'm quite partial to the mint mint chocolate chip I'll admit.  I've only had it in Japan - maybe it is formulated differently?

wibble4321 I've never had it over there, but knowing Japanese culture pretty well, I'll bet it's different from what's served over here. Most Japanese would find the hyper-sweetness of the American CSC ice cream hard to stomach. Plus, the CSC portion sizes over here are huge, even by American standards. Most Japanese served a "Gotta Have It" portion--which is nearly the size of a soccer ball and enough to serve four people--would be in disbelief.

Above: A CSC associate serving up a "Gotta Have It" size dessert. Years ago, eating an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream was considered an act of gluttony. Now, Cold Stone Creamery wants Americans to understand that they "gotta have" an entire quart of ice cream--and nearly 2,000 calories--in one sitting.

Note that she's serving this with one spoon, not two or three. This is actually intended to be eaten by one person.

squrlz4ever Interesting - I just took a look at the Japanese CSC pages - indeed some significant differences.  They use Japanese milk so I would be pretty sure their ice cream recipe and flavour is going to be different / normal!  They have three 'portion' sizes ranging from a very small individual pot for about $4 up to the 'Gotta Have It' at about $8.  Then, considerably larger is a 'Take Out Pint' at about $12

wibble4321 Wow. Thanks for reporting back. American portion sizes are out of control.

Last weekend, I was helping my parents get my departed grandmother's tableware out of storage in the basement. It's Fiestaware from the 1940s and a hot collectible today, so they're taking it to an auction house. It was remarkable how small everything was by today's standards, particularly the cups, mugs, and bowls. Back then, if an American was having a bowl of ice cream, it was about 6 or 8 tablespoons' worth, and a cup of coffee was truly a cup (meaning 8 fluid ounces).

Define starving. As in, I haven't eaten since breakfast and I'm starving? Or, I haven't eaten for 2 1/2 weeks, and I'm starving.
Were it the former, none of them, the latter? Anywhere I could, I guess.

daegog   megrendel   The Owner/CEO  gives his and company money to non-profit christian charities that actively fight gay civil rights and try to prevent gay marriage laws.  That's why they are anti gay.  No one claims company policy is anti-gay.. that'd lead to law suits.  But as a christian charity you can hate anyone you like and it's "a higher moral calling".  Truth...Real facts

daegog The owner once said something that pissed off leftist.  Nothing more.

No one has ever found any instance where someone was not hired, or fired, due to their sexual orientation. (Based on the local ones, they have no problem hiring gays.)

But, as with most things leftist, it doesn't matter what the facts are, just the narrative. Narrative is Truth...fuck facts.

Lets go to Snopes!

https://www.snopes.com/politics/sexuality/chickfila.asp

Welp, gonna have to give Gerry the win on this one.  The moronic company president Dan Cathy is pretty blatantly anti-gay if these reports are true.

However, it appears that they are taking a different direction (ie, telling old dan to shut the fuck up).  Let's face it, money matters more than god to businesses, so, perhaps they will not fund the anti-gay folks anymore.

Shame, now i feel like I should avoid them, such nice waffle fries too.

daegog Snopes?  Really?

And Gerry said "Chick-fil-a .... anti-gay".  There has been zero evidence that any Chick-fil-a has hired, fired or mistreated any person based on their sexual orientation.  So, Chick-fil-a cannot be labeled as 'anti-gay'.

Chick-fil-a also has a charitable organization, WinShape, that provides scholarships, summer camps, day camps, foster-homes.  Some of the charitable donations went to family groups some like to label 'anti-gay'.

Also, some things that the chief operating officer says does not jive with leftists beliefs, so he must be labeled 'anti-gay'.

megrendel    I did not say every single dime they gave to charity was anti-gay.... but enough of it is.   If you give 1 dollar out of 100 to a nazi group you can be labeled pro nazi.   1 our of 100 that goes to actively fight against gay civil rights does label you anti-gay.  Even if you are kind to dogs.

megrendel Leftist beliefs in that gay people should be allowed to get married?

Is that the leftist belief you are referring to or something else?

Also, knowing the clear stance that the president of the company has towards gays, don't you think it would be pretty silly for a gay person to go to work there?

We are talking about a mcJob in most cases here, if you were gay would you try to work for chik fil a?

daegog Is that the leftist belief you are referring to or something else?

That remark was aimed at leftists beliefs in general. Disagreeing with a Liberal is the fastest way to get called 'Racist', 'Sexist', 'Homophone', etc.

daegog knowing the clear stance that the president of the company has towards gays,

He claimed to be against same-sex marriage.  That does not equate to calling for public stoning.

daegog don't you think it would be pretty silly for a gay person to go to work there?

And yet, many do. Plenty work there, and there have been zero confirmed instances where someone was hired/fired/harassed for their sexual orientation.

daegog  if you were gay would you try to work for chik fil a?

Does it pay? Yes. Do they discriminate based on sexual orientation? No.  So answer: Yes.

daegog It is a shame.  While I don't eat meat or fast food in general anymore, I do know they actually use quality products in their food and it's prepared better.  And yes, the waffle fries are something even a veggie can fall in love with.

But unfortunately Good Ol' Dan has more respect for the chickens in his products than he does for a gay person.

At about the 12 day mark of no food, you start thinking about cannibalism.
