WWE's Vince McMahon Announces He's Relaunching The XFL

Submitted by: littlemissqt 3 weeks ago in News & Politics Sports

Football fans who stopped caring about the NFL seasons ago, but still enjoy the idea of the game, will probably like this.

I'm a casual fan who hasn't watched a game in years -- mostly because of all the problems Vince McMahon seems to be addressing here, but it sounds like he wants to return to a simpler, faster, less dangerous game. The NFL's bloated and irrelevant anyway -- they have 5 seasons left, tops.

Awful timing to get into professional American Football. The market is only going to decline as the game is forced to change to prevent rampant brain damage.

holygod well, but soccer is played on a field of curative magic herbs. You fall down, writhe in agony, then the shaman ref comes by and you stand up as new. You even do a hoppity hop hop hop afterwards.

McMahon trying to parlay his friendship with Trump, his wife working for Trump, and Trump's use of the kneeling dog whistle into a second attempt at making this work

Yeah but... We already have an alt-NFL. It's called the CFL, and it's going strong. How many *FL's do we need?

Oh right. Wrestling guy...

All American Wrestling, All Pro Wrestling, Allied Independent Wrestling, Federations, !Bang!, Chaotic Wrestling, Chikara, Combat Zone Wrestling, CWF Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, East Coast Wrestling Association, Empire Wrestling Federation, Evolve, Full Impact Pro, Funking Conservatory, Harley Race's Wrestling Academy, House of Hardcore, Impact Wrestling, Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South, Independent Wrestling Federation, Jersey All Pro Wrestling, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, Lucha Libre USA, Lucha Underground, Lucha VaVOOM, Major League Wrestling, Mason-Dixon Wrestling, MCW Pro Wrestling, Millennium Wrestling Federation, MXW Pro Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance, National Wrestling League, New England Championship Wrestling, Ohio Valley Wrestling, Power League Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Reality of Wrestling, Resistance Pro Wrestling, Revolutionary Championship Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Shimmer Women Athletes, Shine Wrestling, Southern States Wrestling, Texas All-Star Wrestling, Top Rope Promotions, Ultra Championship Wrestling-Zero, United Wrestling Network, West Coast Wrestling Connection, Women Superstars Uncensored, World League Wrestling, World Xtreme Wrestling, WrestleReunion, WWE...

And those are just the ones still active!

(Yes, I copy pasted. What sort of inbred savant would know all that off the top of his head?)

"The NFL's bloated and irrelevant anyway -- they have 5 seasons left, tops."

LOL. K. Want to put money on that?

The NFL's revenue in 2016 was $13+ Billion, triple what it was in 2001.

It generates $30+ Billion per season.

100+ Million people are going to watch the superbowl. That's 10 times what the highest rated show on TV brings.

Despite all the pissing and moaning on youtube and breitbart all those people burning jerseys will be watching.

Athletes are going to go where they can get the most money. The XFL is going to have second tier talent unless they can match NFL salaries, which they can't.

If people wanted to watch second tier talent they already have the CFL and IFL.

I don't give a shit about football, but come on.

holygod I wasn't referring pale fundies burning jerseys because they're upset a person of color doesn't kneel during the national anthem, I was referring to the rampant CTE among the NFL's atheletes.

In a recent study published 7 months ago, doctors found that 110 of 111 former National Football League players died with severe CTE. I didn't think I had to spell it out. No one cares about who stands for the national anthem.

littlemissqt The players know this and are willing to play anyways. The fans don't care. What do you think is going to change?

holygod Exactly.  Like I say on here all the time about tons of different topics, all people are paying attention to is the vocal minority who are don't like sports.  The vast majority will still continue to watch and enjoy and stay silent.

Well, they don't even really stay silent.  Fans arguing with fans still happens all the time.

For myself, I'm not really in to sports at all, except jiu-jitsu which is not quite the same.  Does that mean that I think nobody likes sports?  Of course not, I see the evidence of people loving football everyday.  I am noticing more and more people that just don't care one way or the other, but there are still plenty of fans out there and it's highly unlikely it's going away any time soon just because the vocal minority says so.

punko Lingerie Football League, but they changed it to Legends Football League so as not to objectify the women in lingerie. That is in no way 2nd tier. There is some top tier talent there and the fact that they don't make more than NFL players is astounding to me. Fucking glass ceiling.
