Deadspin reports that Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski was found dead yesterday of what's being ruled as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Authorities conducted a welfare check on the 21-year-old after he missed practice and said Hilinski left a suicide note near the rifle he likely used to kill himself.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tyler’s passing,” said Mike Leach, the school’s head football coach. “He was an incredible young man and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him was better for it. The entire WSU community mourns as thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

I have to agree with that zair_khan guy... this is indeed an earnestly fantastic post - very sad story.  The brain damage caused by repeated concussions are known to cause players to do something like this.  A couple of years ago two high school football players in my area killed themselves, and it was determined that the several concussions they suffered over their high-school careers played a significant part in it.

moldysod He wasn't playing football for a living, as he was in college and on the University's team.

He had yet to get to a point where is was making a living.
