[UPDATE] Los Angeles Cop Pulls Teens From The Train And Arrest Them For Acting Like Entitled Brats

Submitted by: littlemissqt 3 weeks ago in News & Politics

Make no mistake, police brutality is out of hand in 2018 -- it might not be the worst America's seen, but US cops today are getting really comfortable acting like the Gestapo.

All that said, this woman -- Bethany Nava, 18 -- needed her world shaken up a bit. Life is hard enough, but when you have to ride an already shitty, full commuter train and some entitled brat with no self-awareness shits on simple common courtesy that everyone else follows, it's impossible to find sympathy in her arrest.

So let's recap: This past Monday, Nava was dragged off an Los Angeles Metro train because she was raised as an entitled asshole who has been told all of her 18 years that she can do anything she wants with no repercussions or regard for anyone around her.

The cop who arrived on the scene told her she was being removed from the train for disobeying his simple order of removing her feet from another seat she wasn't sitting in -- the chair across from her. In the clip, an LAPD officer can be seen talking to Nava, who is seated just off-camera.

"I already told you what to do. You disobeyed me. You're getting off the train." No taser, no pepper spray, no gun.

The cop then grabs Nava by the arm and begins pulling her to the open door of the train car.

"I paid to be on this train, you asshole, stop!" she shouts.

Nava is then removed from the train while pleading for a chance to retrieve her phone, which was left behind. After leading her out of the train and onto the platform, the cop retains her while the guy shooting the video tries reasoning with him. As the cop does this, her friend Selena Lechuga, 22, approaches and also begins harassing the officer. After she spits on one of the cops, she yells "This is racism! This is what we are!"

No, bitch. This wasn't racism. This was you and your friend acting like entitled assholes with no regard for the passengers on your train.

"Over her foot? Really?" Brock Bryan, who later posted his video on Facebook, asks the cop. “That’s really [an] abuse of power, officer. Over her foot on a seat? She wasn’t blocking anybody else from sitting down.”

Metro CEO Phil Washington also weighed in with a statement, leading off with "I am extremely disappointed, our riders deserve better." Yeah, they do deserve better, Phill -- they deserve a train where it's riders aren't propping their feet up on empty seats when it's full of people.

Ultimately, it's not about her foot -- it's about being an asshole. Unfortunately, the cop was white and she's Hispanic so this becomes a race thing.

Nava was arrested for "being loud and boisterous on the train," reported The New York Daily News. Another woman, 22-year-old Selina Lechuga, was also arrested after attempting to intervene and allegedly spitting on a cop. As of this morning, she's still in jail for not being able to post bail.

Again, life is difficult as it is -- do you really want to go through it with the entitled Bethany Navas of the world making it worse?

UPDATE: nettech98 posted this video in the comment section, but it needs to be added in the article. It's body-cam footage of the first cop on the scene, calmly explaining to Nava on why she's being told to leave the train. There's no confusion or mixup here, Nava was acting like a raging, entitled asshole.

It irritates me that they describe the gir (the news reporter) as a teen. Technically she is but she's an adult at the legal age and not some kind of child, that teen implies. All so she should have been thrown off and as far as smoking crack well call the police that's what a responsible adult does. Not just young adults and children but older people also need to go back to a time when courtesy was the norm not the exception.

I think the cop took too much crap and didn’t tell her annoying friends to take a hike when this turned into what appeared to be an arrest.
When he removed her from the train and the guy and the girl were telling him to stop, he should have told them to get back and shut up or be charged with obstruction.  That interaction was a circus and he should have put a lid on it.
The real problem with police trying to enforce minor infractions is that when the idiotic or mentally unstable are involved the cop either has to walk away or having your feet on the furniture turns into and arrest and trip to jail.

See this is what gets me with people on this site. The standard of whats acceptable usually depends on whether you like or align with the 'victim'. Show some consistency.

erg, what a douchebag. I'd be cheering those police for kicking that useless piece of trash off the train. What a giant useless stupid crybaby. boo fucking who. I hope she gets into trouble and learns to be a better human being. She couldn't have just said "oh, ok, sorry." and done that? O_o

I love the mentality we see so many times lately.  'She got arrested for having her feet on the chair', 'He was killed for selling untaxed cigarettes', etc....

Noooo..  She was arrested for not following the instructions of the cop (and perhaps not being able to show ID when he was possibly just going to ticket her).

That's not 'bodycam' footage.  It appears to be from a bystander's cellphone.  When I hear 'bodycam' I think a camera attached to a cop...  In fact it seems that the male pleading with the cop and 'explaining' to other passengers near the end is the person filming.  No worries though, the video speaks for itself.

Listen, I've complained about police brutality many times. But this cop is (at least in this case) a saint with a patience that I wouldn't have. Wow... The kid and the bystanders. They were harassing and threatening the cop.   The respect goes both ways. Yes, many cases of police brutality, but this was not one. I personally consider spitting to be assault, as I don't know what type of diseases the spitting idiot may have. I hope they charge that idiot as such.

bearbear01 After reading your bit about spitting and assault, I looked it up and you're absolutely right, according to the US Court of Appeals.

Reuters: "A man who intentionally spat at another can be charged with criminal assault, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Wednesday.

Jeffrey Lewellyn was sentenced to two years probation and 50 hours of community service after he spat in 2004 at a patient who swore at him on the grounds of a Veterans Administration Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington.

He appealed the conviction, arguing that spitting did not constitute an assault, but the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed.

“Intentionally spitting on another person is an offensive touching that rises to the level of simple assault,” the three-judge panel wrote."

I'm too am interested in the cop's cam, especially what lead to the escalation.  The link below, it looks like someone was trying to sit next to the girl but has to sit on the edge, possibly due to her foot being in the way to properly be seated.  If that is the case, and this girl refused an officer's order, she deserves what she got.

The other chick who spit on the cops and was playing the race card...I don't have any sympathy for her.

kalron27 Already thanked nettech98 for posting the body-cam video, but thanks for explaining what we don't see in the first video. It justifies everything that was written about her up above.

Good find, nettech98 -- I'm not sure if that's official police body-cam footage, but it tells the entire story that my video didn't.

"Bethany Nava, 18 -- needed her world shaken up a bit." damn gurl. i mean agree, they be actin like a couple of whiney biatches, but you straight up destroyed these chicks in this article. this was a well written and well informed article, but lets be straight up, this feels like i just got told a juicy piece of highschool gossip. i didnt even bother watching the video, do i need to? that was a long recap, arent recaps supposed to be short? when i read "No, bitch. This wasn't racism. This was you and your friend acting like entitled assholes with no regard for the passengers on your train." i was like "FINISH HER!!" from now on im going to be a good person in public, i mean i try to be anyways just for the sake of common decency and all, but now im going to do it out of fear of being judged by people online i have never met.

No judgement, just reporting the facts, and the facts are, she and her friend are inconsiderate assholes, and what's worse, they think they're right, and Nava's mother has hired an attorney.

If people don't want to be called out for acting like an animal, they shouldn't act like one. It's so simple.
