Elon Musk's Flamethrower Is Selling Like Hotcakes

Submitted by: littlemissqt 6 months ago in News & Politics Tech

It's an interesting gadget, but besides roasting marshmallows and starting a fire in your chimney, what's it point? It looks pretty small for a flame thrower. The Boring Company has sold 15,000 units for a total of $7.5 million -- they might be of some practical use for the inevitable zombie invasion.

I had an LPG venturi burner called a 3/4" T-Rex. I once lit it at full open instead of a whisper of gas. The flame shot out about 20 feet of continuous fire and the fireball was about 8 feet by the end of it. Thank the Kraken I tested it outdoors as I was going to use it inside.

I live in California and I can't buy a Ruger .22 but I can have a flame thrower?

Shelworth not recommended as a home defence weapon.

Hang on, my brother lives in LA and has two semi auto weapons with drum mags in the trunk of his car. How come you can't have a .22?

Draculya Not sure, Ruger finally made an easy to clean .22 MarkIV pistol but it's not on the "Approved List".

Meh, it's almost like he's spread himself too thin and now is focusing on gadgets instead of orbiting the moon (assuming that can be done). Seriously a flame thrower, and a completely irrational hyperloop tunnel?  I wonder if he is doing this because he understands space is a failed endeavor?

oh come on! anyone who has actually put some thought into surviving the zombie apocalypse knows that trying to use fire as a weapon against the undead is a very bad idea.  instead of regular flesh eating zombies, you will have flaming flesh eating zombies! it makes a bad situation worse. sure, they might burn to a crisp, but until then, your immediate problem is flaming flesh eating zombies.

robthelurker Always follow the rules.

Rule 1: Cardio..
Rule 2: Always Double-tap.
Rule 3: There is no such thing as overkill. There is only ‘Open Fire’ and ‘Reloading’!

muert Technically you are correct, though that's not where I got that.

The first two are from ZombieLand.

The third I originally read in Under a Graveyard Sky by John Ringo.  1st novel in the Black Tide Rising series.  Good read.

megrendel Yeah, John is a fan of the web comic references.  I read that the entire Troy Rising series is a non cannon prequel to the Schlock universe.

I like his stories, I just wish he would quit with the jail bait characters all the time.  It is creepy.  :P  Well, that and the fact that the liberals always get eaten for being to stupid to live.

muert Yeah, He's not exactly obscure when it comes to identifying who he likes and dislikes in this series.

Obviously he is an Emma Watson fan, as well as Harrison Ford and Sarah Palin.

Justin Bieber, Snooki, Kristen Stewart and Mark Zuckerberg...not so much.

robthelurker It really is a niche weapon.  You might be able to get a fat, dehydrated zombie going, but your average soggy ditch zombie isn't going to be phased (or burning at all.)

muert when it comes to zombies what you want is stopping power. shotgun, hammer, machete, baseball bat, desert eagle, .44 magnum, assault rifles. if its a small group, round them up and hit them in the head, if its a horde, run! a flamethrower isnt going to instantly put a zombie down, its going to set the zombie on fire. so if its a small group, it will be a small group of flaming zombies you have to put down, and that can get pretty up close and personal. if its a horde, youre going to have to run anyway, and a horde of flaming zombies may be more incentive to run, but ultimately, i think if im going to be caught by a horde of zombies and have my flesh torn apart, i think i would prefer if they also werent on fire.

At the very least, it'll be a limited collectors item and you can double your money on eBay with it once they're all sold out of it.
