Woman At Starbucks Rants At Korean Students! "Stop Speaking Oriental"

Submitted by: fancylad 5 months ago in News & Politics

An unidentified woman was kicked out of a Starbucks in Walnut Creek, California, earlier this week after she angrily told two students who were sitting near her to stop speaking "Oriental."

Local news station KRON 4 reports that Korean exchange student Annie An was doing school work with her tutor, Sean Lee, in the Walnut Creek Starbucks when a woman sitting nearby told them to stop talking.

If you decide to set up shop with your laptop and use Starbucks as your office, you deserve everything you get.

I do not wish to hear her ghastly whining drawl- she obviously cannot speak English properly and should take lessons.

It is one thing to work and live in a country and not speak the common language - in America, that is English - and quite another to be conversational and/or fluent in a nation's common language, but speak amongst peers in another.
This lady has a dim understanding - at best - of how life works, and how freedoms apply.

Old racist. Dumb, likely. Dying breed? You wish. Saw plenty of young ones in the rally photos. And the ones pulling the strings are no dumb at all. Still, these are just useful idiots, and the ones who give a shit come in equal numbers. But the huge majority is in the middle, the bunch who doesn't give a shit, or won't give a shit until it touches their ass. But if you think this is a stable condition, oh you're in for a nasty surprise.

bearbear01 You're right -- once the old ones start dropping off, shit like this will lessen.

fancylad I fear it won't lessen. I believe these folks look down on others because otherwise they will have to come to terms with their own issues. And if and when things get worse, these same fools will resort to the same coping mechanism of making themselves feel better by putting down others. Works like a charm for the puppeteers.

The Starbucks patrons were speaking one of the official languages of the US.  What's the problem?

Oh yeah, the US doesn't have  an official language.

The angry lady was being a bigot and intolerant.   I absolutely don't have a problem with her being asked to leave for upsetting other customers.

If you decide claim a Starbucks as your personal realm to the point where you get upset with anyone different than you, you deserve everything you get.

As for the pair, many folks have meetings in coffee shops.  Its a neutral, public location.  Perhaps the student was not comfortable meeting 1:1 with the tutor in a private office?
