"Jane, You Ignorant Slut"

Old school Saturday Night Live, NO WAY they could air a skit like this now, or could they? Have we gone past this point?

Here's some other choice gems from other shows:

Sanford and son:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fya3_aak94

The Jeffersons (1:35):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofkuueGgZys

The Jeffersons (0:45):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYa91TmQQTg

All In the Family (7:10 but he whole clip is pretty racist):  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIu08SRa-As

Here's one of my favorite SNL skits with Cee Lo about FCC censorship:  https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/record-meeting/n13016

Sorry for focusing on the N-word,  but it's a good example of what you could get away with before but not any more....

I have always used the word slut in the same way as did Katherine Whitehorn, which was the most common usage then- and probably was when this was recorded.

nettech98 Ha, yeah -- can you imagine the fallout? SNL would be cancelled the following Monday.

We couldn't wait for the show to come on, it was must see T.V. back then. I posted the Clarence Thomas hearings cold open a while back but it didn't make the cut. Maybe cus it has Franken in it but they all nailed their characters and it was some funny stuff:

Jane was very upset about the improvised line. When she complained about it she was told it got to laugh so they were going to continue

fancylad I seem to recall reading somewhere that she was, in general, not happy with the tone of a lot of the show, especially how the women were treated and portrayed.

toetagmodel2 I remember reading the women were unhappy in general due to skits, but I didn't realize the details. Looking for reading material on it now. Thanks.
