A long as the owners realise those ducks CANNOT survive 'in the wild'- the will die slow and horrible deaths. Domestics live many years- 7-13 is average, they need shelter. food and clean water, they shit for England, they need regular wing clips, fresh water daily- they are high maintenence.

madduck Oh, I hate to disagree with you, my favorite IABer. My ducks grew up and flew away and the next summer I saw them {1 had a specific colouring} at the lake, fine and healthy. They took up with a flock and were apparently happy.

Chickens and domestic turkeys can't survive in the wild, but ducks are okay.

Gerry1of1 - Most aren't. Domestic ducks don't fly well at all, The USA has a variable climate too- so when the migratory flocks fuck off the domestics are stuck there. They also lack the instinct and knowledge for food- yours obviously got lucky. Then there are predators-mallards are small and agile, they sleep in groups on water- trouble comes, there's an almightly racket and they take off- the far larger domestics can't- too big to fly very well. Obviously some do okay ( they do fairly well over here, healthy watercourses and less predators) but the rescues are full of pets who think they are human, dumped at a park or a pond, trying to climb into cars, bitten by dogs, thin, injured. Horrible thing to see- most of them come in after Easter when twats of parents feel it's okay to give live animals to children then release them- same applies to Rabbits- they dye them too, vile practice.

This makes me miss my pet ducklings Daffy & Dufus.  Of course they grew up and flew away, but baby animals do make for a nice spring/summer. Especially pets they leave you after the novelty has worn off.
