Trump's Puppet Stunt With VP Pence At Yesterday's NFL Game Cost Taxpayers Over $242,500

Submitted by: fancylad 2 months ago in News & Politics Sports
It does what it's told or it gets the hose again.

Trump ordered his puppet VP to go to a football game Sunday between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers. If you take into consideration how much Pence's security detail and travel accommodations cost, how much did Trump's stunt cost?

In a report by CNN, according to the Air Force, flying a C-32, the model of plane used for Air Force 2, for one hour costs about $30,000. Pence's flight from Las Vegas to Indianapolis Saturday took about three hours and 20 minutes, so it cost about $100,000

Pence then flew from Indianapolis to Los Angeles on Sunday, which took about four hours and 45 minutes, costing about $142,500.

The grand total, about $242,500 -- and that's not even including secret service detail.

I expect we could look at the policies and programs instituted by each administration, and debate whether they were a good way to allocate taxpayer funds...

...But what other stunts like this one have been pulled?

I should think this would irritate anyone that's fiscally conservative.

When feetball players kneel  for the anthem its called protesting, when the Vice President protest the disrespect to the country, that gives these neerdowells the very rights and the privilege to go to a free school then collage on a scholarship to play a game, then make millions of dollars doing it and they call it a stunt, and who said that the former governor and long time resident of Indiana needs the president to tell him to go to a football game of his home states team. If your going to get mad get mad over something real. Its ok when a lib protests but let a conservative exercise his same rights and they cry like the hypocrites they are.

casaledana it was a 49ers game. There was an absolute certainty there would be players kneeling. He knew that going in.

holygod Opps but its still his home state and all so it could be inferred that he would like to go to a game and at least expect the citizens to respect the flag that gave them so much. Funny how you seam to miss that. This country is not perfect but has been working on it and things were getting better until The Unnamable one took office and threw hate and race in to everything he did. Blamed the police and whites in general for every ill that's ever befallen a minority. All most every one I know could care less about some ones color or religion in the long run and just wants to get along. How can you take them seriously when they get upset because of a floral arrangement of cotton boles or that the black girl had a brown sweater on and when she took it off and turned in to a white girl with no understanding that the add was to show that any color woman can use there product. I'v lived in the south for close on to 50 years and alot of the problems of every one is brought on by them selves white or black.

The reason why these players are kneeling is due to social injustice.  The blue field on our flag today represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.  This administration and congress are doing absolutely nothing about the social injustice that the players are protesting, and I believe they are making things worse.  It is the duty of the administration and congress to uphold the flag's principles and they are failing.  They are disrespecting the flag due to their failure, not the players.  The players are kneeling simply because our government is failing them.

JoBlack Hands up! Don't Shoot!
Brown was murdered! You DO know that is the original source of this "protest" eh? A lie...

Sorry 5cats, that's not the original source of protest.  Players didn't start protesting til 2016.  Brown was 2014.

Kaepernick told the media he initially sat because of the oppression of people of color and ongoing issues with police brutality.  Not because of one specific event.

You need to stop the lies.

And he said it was in support of BLM, which was indeed founded on the Brown case...

JoBlack You have nothing at all: BLM was 'created' after another #FakeOutrage event: Trayvon Martin. So it's still based on a lie and I'm correct.

Also? Who knew about it until Ferguson? Even Wiki acknowledges the following:
"Black Lives Matter became nationally recognized for its street demonstrations following the 2014 deaths of two African Americans: Michael Brown, resulting in protests and unrest in Ferguson, and Eric Garner in New York City"

So... nice try but while I made a trivial mistake? I'm still correct on all counts: based on a lie is what I said and that's a fact.

Your stupidity is astounding.  BLM was founded in 2013, a full year before Brown was shot.  Lay off the right-wing kool-aid... you're embarrassing yourself.

bubba565801 No one is complaining that he went.

The problem is that he NEVER had any intention of staying, he went, just so he could get sand in his vagina about the players kneeling and storm out in a huff.

His aid even said it was staged just so he could walk out.

See the difference?

Ever notice the people in an uproar over this shouting about football players "disrespecting the flag, this country, and soldiers" tend to be the same people who drape themselves in a flag and support the statues erected to people who LITERALLY committed treason against America and KILLED U.S. soldiers.

How can their broken brains handle that level of hypocritical dichotomy?

I think it is funny that people are saying it wasn't planned. It was the fucking 49ers. There are 8 colts home games in a year. He picked the fucking 49ers, the one team guaranteed to have people kneeling.

This nfl bullshit is the one win Trump has had in the last few months with his base so they needed to rile the inbreds up again. Makes me scared for what they were trying to distract from.

Where do you come up with the cost figures?

captkangaroo
Yes, I see that CNN - a pretty sketchy news source, in my opinion - SAYS the figures come from the Air Force, but I notice there are no footnotes citing actual, specific sources. For me, that is a problem. If a news agency is going to publish something as fact, they should also publish the data they sourced.
Yes, I can see that operating a large, modified airplane with a no doubt large crew and who knows how many ancillary passengers, would be costly. As to the costs - CNN should be a responsible enough news organization to cite the source with something more than a vague 'We got it from the Air Force'.
Having said all that, sending the assistant asshole  to a ball game for a few minutes was an expensive and pointless gesture right in keeping with the head assholes penchant for all show and no substance.

captkangaroo I'm not sure where they got the cost figures, but I assume it takes in to consideration wages of the flight crew, cost to take of and land at specific terminals, the military aboard, the support aircraft and military crew within them, and the fuel to carry the heavy aircraft and support aircraft.

I am not going to do all of the research for those figures or what other costs may come in to play, but I can definitely see it getting pricey.

spanz That's colorful language you're using to describe a situation that doesn't exist. No one is "crapping all over" our anthem, flag, and country, either literally or figuratively. Certainly it's possible to work yourself up into a lather by describing something in a highly emotional way that doesn't reflect reality. But why would you? I don't get it.

spanz Hey, why don't you spend your entire life learning a skill. Spend four years in college with a schedule twice as packed as any regular student, unable to accept so much as a sandwich for free or risk losing your amature status and your scholarship. Pass up a chance to go pro to finish your degree the way Kapernick did...

Then tell me how the money you've earned after a lifetime of work means you don't get to stand up for your beliefs.

Nobody is calling for Pence's JOB for this the way Trump called for these players to be fired over their protest.

Male 39
5cats Pretty sure the right to protest doesn't apply to the Vice President. If something is wrong, its his job to try and fix it. Anything he does now costs tax money, and staging a protest (particularly one as useless as this one) is a gross misuse of that tax money. If this were a business he would be looking at a potential dismissal right now.

But please, continue with your straw-men. You're really showing those "I-A-B Liberals" who's who.

Male 41,539
aegis1294 I mean that Pence peacefully and without causing a fuss 'protested' what he saw going on.

How can Pence 'fix it'? When did the VP's job include altering the US Constitution? The players have every right to protest (on their own time, it is actually against the NFL's rules to do what they are doing) and so do the fans: to counter-protest by refusing to attend games and turning off the TV.

Did he fly to the game specifically to walk out? That was the itinerary? The plan from the start? I think not. He knew it might happen, but then again it might not have, Pence didn't 'make them do it' ok?

trimble My problem is hypocrisy. Conservatives complained non stop about Obama and his frivolous travel expenses. Now they are being even more frivolous.

It's sort of like the golf thing. I have ZERO problem with a president playing golf. My problem is that Trump pissed and moaned about Obama golfing and bragged about how he'd never leave the white house THEN did it. Or his supporters, like 5cats, who used to bitch about Obama going on vacation or playing golf and now SUDDENLY have no problem with a president who vacations and golfs MORE.

Just be consistent, that's all.

holygod Obama went on fundraisers for his party, as well as all the golf too. Those fundraiser trips were on AF-1 and he did more than the 5 Presidents before him combined. In addition to everything else. This is always 'overlooked'.

Of course they'd work some 'Gov't business' in to justify the trip: 3x 2 hour fundraisers and 1x 15 minute official meeting ... He'd fly to San Fran and back just for that, hundreds of similar trips... it adds up fast.

I haven't heard of Trump doing much fundraising yet, I'm sure he'll do some eventually.

hey? When Trump didn't attend that stupid Press Club Dinner (or whatever it was called) did you applaud him for saving taxpayer money by not attending? Lolz! Just a funny thought... consistency...
