The day is coming where insurance companies will get video of accidents and you will have to justify actions like this To get the payout.

That might be what we need to get people like this to pay attention

woodyville06 I've installed a dashcam in my car just for this. Protection from idiots.

DuckBoy87 you need to share some of that footage!  I’ll bet you have some choice idiots on there:)

I’ve been thinking about getting one myself.

I always see people rush ahead of me just to get on the off ramp, crossing two lanes, even though I'm going above the speed limit and there is no traffic behind me. Then they basically force me to hit my brakes, or change lanes all because they're too impatient to get behind someone.

I assume something like that happened here. The truck was chugging along and that lady didn't want to be behind it. She paid for it though...

DuckBoy87 you are exactly right.  The person wanting to get off can slide in easily behind you but instead they race ahead then cut you off to get in the exit lane.

You can bet they don’t give a crap about anyone but themselves in life.

The key thing here was not having visibility down the road.  She couldn’t see what she was getting into and that was the key.

Another similar circumstance is following a truck or SUV too closely at high speeds and then the truck quickly changes lanes to reveal slowed or stopped traffic and you can’t stop in time.  Leave a safe following distance and try to avoid blind spots.

We really need to get self driving cars going on a mass scale, prevent this kind of shit from happening.

mrteatime it will take 20+ years to get enough self driving cars on the road to make a difference though.

mrteatime i had that exact same thought.

People have to understand self-driving cars do not have to be 100% perfect, they just have to be better than us, and that is clearly not that hard.

can't imagine how the driver of our point of view felt watching that happen in front and knowing there was nothing he could do to avoid plowing into the wreck in front of him

In serious accidents like this several things have to go wrong.
1) Changing 2 lanes at a time
2) not having vision (because of DHL truck)
3) long, standing line in the turn lane
4) truck going behind the car

99% of the time you change 2 lanes at a time, nothing bad happens. You make it a habit and soon enough BAM!
Glad to see it. I'm gonna drive more carefully... I'd much rather miss a turn than have the 1% chance of a brutal accident.

boredhuman 1. Actually? that's perfectly legal, at least in my Province. Of course you have to be able to SEE where you're going...
2. That? That's a huge issue... (see above)
3. Not their fault, they are stopped. They have reasons for stopping. 100% not their fault.
4. Not sure what you have to say here? Is the truck (the on the POV is from) somehow in 'the wrong' here? I disagree...

The driver took an insanely stupid chance to pass ON THE RIGHT IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE on a highway? She rolled the dice and got "snake-eyes"...

5cats I agree with you on nearly everything!
"The driver took an insanely stupid chance to pass ON THE RIGHT" - the only thing i disagree with. It looks like she wanted to just get off the highway, but realized it too late and was forced to make a risky maneuver if she was going to make the turn.

I was trying to explain why people end up doing risky maneuvers like this. Usually when people do it, they are rewarded and not punished. But once in a while you do get "snake-eyes"...

I guess i gotta specify "Glad to see it." - I didn't mean I enjoyed harm coming to someone to her. I was glad to have this reminder to drive carefully and not take unnecessary risks.

I saw this quite a while ago and I think I recall her surviving.

Good demonstration of why you never change lanes that close behind a semi.

Hope there was no one in the back and I hope they survived.  That was brutal.
