What Do We Think About The Foo Fighters' New Tune, "The Sky Is A Neighborhood?"

New Foo. It sounds like they're going in a new direction with this single.

Side question: Nirvana or Foo Fighters? Which band is better and why?

I would definitely want to hang with Dave Grohl over Cobain. Over and over I hear how he is the nicest guy in rock and roll. He does things like if he learns there is a westboro baptist church rally going on in a town he has a show in - he'll go down there - set up with the counter protesters, and put on a 2 hour show to just drown out the WBC asshats with awesome music... then proceed to go do their normal show for like 2 more hours that night.

That's not even mentioning the time he fell off the stage and broke his leg BAD. 99.999+% of performers, it would mean an early end to their show. And no one would argue with it. But not Dave. After being tended to by the medical staff, he goes back out with one of the staff holding his leg in position and continues his show. He takes only one more break when doctors from the hospital arrive to put a full cast on his leg before going out to finish his show.

I went to a Foo Fighters concert ten years ago and it was definitely the best show I've ever seen. No other concerts have come close. Dave Grohl is such a cool dude.

I like many of than bands from that era. AIC, Soundgarden, Nivrvana. Pearl Jam is, and always will be my favourite.  The death of Niravana allowed the birth of Foo.  I think the world is better for it.

Let me phrase the question this way: Who would you rather hang with - Cobain or Grohl?  I would rather hang with Grohl any day.  Something tells me Cobain would wear thin pretty quickly.

dkm458 yeah, well grohl seems like an easy answer, i mean we don't really know either of them, but on the surface, cobain might need a punch in the face.

dkm458 That question comes down to "do you want to leave drunk and having had a great time or possibly depressed as hell?"

Foo Fighters for the win.  They have been going strong for over twenty years, and honestly Nirvana probably would have fizzled out by the turn of the century along with grunge itself.

i don't think its really fair to compare living artists to dead ones, the dead ones get too many "dead guy" points.

Foo videos are almost always visually interesting, i appreciate that.

Nirvana. Cobain's lyrics were darker, his riffs were guttural and cathartic. As much as I love Dave Grohl, his work as always seemed to be culled from the surface. I don't think you have to suffer for your art, but I think it's more meaningful if it's legit. You can't fake it (I'm looking at you, Stone Temple Pilots).

fancylad I never liked either. Their sounds just never matched my taste, but this song and most Foo fighters songs are missing something: a hook, a signature, anything to hold my interest.

Nirvana was musically more interesting, but the nonsensical angsty lyrics were too dissonant of concepts for me to enjoy. (A mosquito, my libido???)

Also, was STP music? I thought it was a computerized money making algorithm written to get money from teenagers.

rumham Little older was more my style. 70s maybe. CCR, less dependent on anger. Bands who could play live.

Watched the documentary about the Sgt. Pepper album on PBS recently. Interesting stuff.

I want to relax to music, not connect to my dark side (for the most part).

toetagmodel2 ccr and the stones are my fav "classic rock" bands, i try to be as diverse as possible with the exception of modern country and hip hop

fancylad Nirvana was good but come on, Dave Grohl has been keeping it strong and has a good ear.  he's a great performer and so are the foo fighters.
