Will this unite us seeing that Russia, not liberals not Conservatives, are trying to set us against one another or because Trump refuses to acknowledge Russia this will do nothing?

One would hope that this would unite us all.  Russia was playing both sides trying to pit American against American.  Chance this would unite us with the President crying Russia is fake news, doesn't look promising.

Honestly since the beginning of social media I questioned when, not if, it would be weaponized.  We've found the answer.

rumham Sure.  He thinks he's Napoleon.  Fuzzy how that is really weaponizing though.

Although on second thought I'd agree it's manipulative bullshit meant to divide and sew sow discord.  Essentially the same thing we're accusing the Russians of doing.  Point taken.

Russia has had a lot of help stoking the fire from ALL of the media (the left, the right and the middle). This very site loves pushing a divisive narrative. Fancy knows how to divide and conquer - more page clicks.

markust123 right, blame the media, it's not that they're stirring up the ires of a bunch of weak willed and angry people, no, let's blame those pushing out the content, because, it's not like we have any choice in what we listen to. Capitalism simply means that many people will take the freedom to be as stupid as they truly are.

Russia is just stirring the pot, it's probably not even the government, and even if it is, atleast  it's fake social media accounts, and not KGB agents training terrorist cells in the U.S. To destabilise the country...

what kind of phychotic country does that?

layla_wilson right... meanwhile, we're only killing thousands of people a year, our policies keep a good quarter of the world in poverty, and we happily screw anyone who steps near our interests. You gotta be living in a fucking bubble to think that both sides aren't utterly psychotic, and even more out of your mind to think that we're not doing the exact same thing to them.
As history will prove, we're just far better at getting away with it.

thething911 "we're only killing thousands a year"

You might want to look at your countries brief history, look at the amount of war it has caused and how many countries it has invaded. Then look at how many terrorist organisations/criminal cartels America has FUNDED to destabilise country's that Russia is gaining political influence in.

Sorry but if you are as bad as each other shouldent you both be sanctioned ans denounced on a global scale?. And yes as history proves you have been getting away with far too much.

if I look at global politics in the 21st century, I see America as the main dictating oppressive force, and Russia trying to keep the peace.

layla_wilson America has been shoving it's Agenda in certain areas but that's what Countries do.  Has America destabilized other countries and promoted parties that would be more sympathetic to America?  Absolutely but what Russia did and is doing is nothing like what America does.  America usually tries to influence through a Democratic Process, supporting certain parties showing them how to organize and get out votes etc.  Once in a while America has done some incendiary tactics, (see Iraq)

normalfreak2 what you have just explained does not reflect reality.

Russia is the least of Americas problems at the moment. Stop getting sucked into the delusions.

The fact that you are trying to justify destabilisation of countries for American politicl gain as acceptable while Russian making fake Twitter profiles isn't, your morals are seriously skewed.

layla_wilson Yes it does reflect reality at least reality we have data on.  According to Dov Levin Professor at Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh, who documented on 61 occasions in 80 different nations from the post-World War II era through 2000, we have been involved, not in computer hacking, but in trying to determine the outcome of elections.

Since that's what I'm relying on I say we aren't as bad as you want us to be.

normalfreak2 here's my question to you, why does Russia trying to cause public divides in a country that has repetitively caused public divides in other countries spanning the globe so horrendous?

And by the way, Google "Stuxnet". Causing a nuclear facility to go into meltdown by hacking it with a virus is FAR worse than any of the Russian cyber warfare you are presenting.

layla_wilson Stuxnet could have been America, could have been Israel, could have been any number of nations.  I'm not going to put the cart ahead of the horse.  Neither should you.

In either case, maybe it's the North American in me, but I honestly believe America was trying to do the right thing.  Russia is not run by honest people, nor is America.  The difference is political dissidents don't end up dead in the street behind a street cleaning truck in front of the Kremlin.  We are a nation of laws, while not perfect far better than any other Nation on Earth.  Sure I have a pro America Bias but I am aware of that.  Because of America we've had sort of lasting peace.  I'll take it, it's better than anyone else has done thus far.

normalfreak2 I can understand your bias, it's natural. But Americas lasting peace has been at the detriment to so many others.

In the past 20 years, how many American civilians have died at the hands of foreigners. And how many foreign civilians have died at the hands of Americans. How many countries have been utterly ransacked by American bombs, so America can live free?

Any country that has elected a left leaning government has been denounced and bullied, in some cases have separatist groups trained and funded by the CIA causing civil war, like the contras or the Taliban. Or actually invading the country and literally splitting it in half, like Korea, all because they voted in left leaning governments.

Just look at the war on the left in your own country. Look at what's happening to Venezuela. The extreme right are the main detriment to global politics, and they are the ones America fights to empower.

Essentially yes you are right, look at the good America has done. But just remember that the consequences for the planet have far outweighed the good that's been done for America.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not blaming most Americans like yourself, I'm blaming the horrifically corrupt political system and the people who pull the strings.

layla_wilson I agree with you there.  The war on the "left" is very noticable.  We unfortunately have had an extreme response by the right and their minions.  Hopefully we can turn back from the course we are on now.

Gerry1of1 You know a really good indicator that someone is racist? Their unwillingness to acknowledge that racism is a major problem in America.

Gerry1of1 Are you FUCKING kidding me? Do you really need me to post all the stats and studies that show black men are exponentially more likely to get "randomly" stopped or pulled over?

Castile was stopped 52 times for minor driving infractions before he was murdered for reaching in his pocket.
