Remember The 12-Year-old Australian Boy Who Wanted To Be A Girl?

Submitted by: 5cats 1 month ago in News & Politics Science

Mitchell, as a young boy and in transition.

We all remember Patrick Mitchell, the young Australian boy who was determined to transition into becoming a woman, right? Well now, according to The Independant, he's changed his mind. Could this be a cautionary tale for other young boys who might be too mentally immature to make such a life-altering decision?

Who could've imagined that a 12-year-old did not have a fixed and permanent gender identity? Never mind a sexual orientation? It is unpossible! But that doesn't stop the progressives from quizzing other 4-year-olds about the subject to the tune of $130,000 taxpayer dollars, all because there could be as many as 58 genders. Because all children at age 4 know which one of the 58 they belong to, right?

Even the American College Of Pediatricians say it's a bad idea to create gender confusion within children at such a young age:

"According to the DSM-V, as many as 98% of gender confused boys and 88% of gender confused girls eventually accept their biological sex after naturally passing through puberty … Conditioning children into believing that a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse."

But progressives need no logic or facts, only emotion. If it feels good? Do it! So what if you mutilate the body of a 12-year-old child who later recants his/her position? By then 'the cause' has moved along...

no surprise.  What business does a 12 year old have making a decision for their adult self?

monkwarrior The mother did it for him, apparently. Either she got the doctors to give him the treatments or she gave him her pills, not too sure...

Either way? His transition was ongoing until he changed his mind. Looks like it is stopped now, but what harm has been done I cannot imagine :/

If he really is a girl? He can wait until he's 18 or at the minimum 16. 12 is child abuse.

58 fucking genders - Let me give you the hot tip - There are ONLY 2.

Fuck this world is so fucked up, bending over to moronic minorities who think that imposing their redarded misguided beliefs is going to make it better for 'everyone'.

Tell them to get fucked. Not everything can be black and white. And I say that meaning that it cannot always be black/white from both viewpoints. You cannot MAKE a pidgeon hole to suit EVERY fucking minor variation that occasionally occurs. Sometimes it just has to be grey - what you should be teaching is TOLERANCE of people who fall into the 'grey'.

There is only one way for children to be created. So I dont care if you are single sex, I dont care if gays want to get married, I dont care if you "transitioned".
You my friends, cannot fuck and make kids. Do you know why? because only THE TWO well documented and defined sexes can do it.

TWO!

Oh and if a parent says they dont want to decide the gender of their child until that child is 18. Then LOCK UP THE PARENTS. Take the kid and put it in foster care with parents who are not complete fucking retards.

I've a niece who is 5 and she is just starting to understand husbands/wives boy/girlfriends. Its interesting to watch the cogs turning as she is negotiating the family tree and how some relatives are married no kids, some are single with kids, some are married with kids, some are not married, with and without. I can see her putting it together in her head how one thing doesnt mean the other.
The last thing she needs is to be told 58 fucking genders! brain-explode!!

stifler I look at it this way.  I don't understand it, but I don't need to.  I support every individual ADULTS right to do with themselves as they see fit.  As far as the pronouns they want to be used to refer to them it's just like a name, you want to be called "Bob" ok, "Sally" ok "they" whatever doesn't matter to me.   Kids are different they don't have the knowledge or decision making skills to make this level of decision. That's why they can't drink, smoke or enter into contracts.

stifler You're getting upset over 58 genders
Let me give you tip: it's total BS and no one should take it seriously.
Doesn't mean gender shouldn't be studied.

I chalk this one up to irresponsible parenting.  There is a huge difference between being supportive and pandering to the whims of a child.  Children don't know the world, they don't know themselves, and while they do know what they want right now, overwhelmingly that's very fluid in children as they are not fully formed individuals yet.  If I was in the situation myself the child would be allowed to wear what they want, their thoughts and feelings would be listened to and discussed, but the implications would also be explained and nothing permanent would be done until they are an adult.

geobas1 I agree, looks  a lot like Munchausen By Proxy to me...

No doubt such genuine cases exist, but the 2% (or 12% for girls, maybe) that do aren't that common to warrant this sort of reassignment at such an age.

Dress them up and treat them like a girl? Go for it. Give them heavy meds and surgery? Woah Nelly! :-O

That's why you dont let children make adult decisions of this magnitude.   They also want to be fairy princesses, cowboys, astronauts and Thor.

Nice post - the points are well taken! The study you linked will just add more information and may very well support what the American College of Pediatricians warn about. 130k is a reasonable grant for the scale of a study they're attempting.
Here's the abstract to the study:
"It is crucial to better understand the risk factors that lead to poor developmental outcomes and to develop appropriate prevention and intervention strategies."

If anything it sounds like they want to prevent the scenario with the Australian child from happening.

What do you have against progressivism?
Progressivism is the support for or advocacy of social reform. As a philosophy, it is based on the Idea of Progress, which asserts that advancements in science, technology, economic development, and social organization are vital to the improvement of the human condition

boredhuman Thanks! I'm pretty sure this story was on IAB before... follow-ups are always good.

I know it might be valid research, but it just sounds so... funny!
"Hey Tina, what Gender are you, point to one of these 58 boxes ok?" Lolz!

Progressives are the new liberal-left, who were the old communists :/ They really are making a mess of the world these past few decades...
You should read 1984, the novel not that terrible movie. Remember who the actual fascists are today: 'antifa' ok? OWS, BLM, SJWs are all 'progressives' too, as are Maoists...

5cats "I know it might be valid research, but it just sounds so... funny!" - It's probably your imagination making it sound funny... Here's the investigators' previous papers:

Children's recall of generic and specific labels regarding animals and people by Gülgöz:
"These results demonstrate that language influences children's representations of new factual information, but that cognitive biases also lead to distortions in recall."

Gender Cognition in Transgender Children by Olson:
"Using implicit and explicit measures, we found that transgender children showed a clear pattern: They viewed themselves in terms of their expressed gender and showed preferences for their expressed gender, with response patterns mirroring those of two cisgender (nontransgender) control groups. These results provide evidence that, early in development, transgender youth are statistically indistinguishable from cisgender children of the same gender identity."

We can research and see how these children can be helped to adapt to society or leave them to fend for themselves and create problems for themselves and others in the future. I'd rather have the government try to figure it out early in child development - again 130k isn't too much money...

I've read 1984 - we're very far from that society. The novel brings up some interesting concepts, but it's not even close to reality... Freedom of speech and thought is well and good.

Throwing labels around too easily and lumping different groups into the same labels... Fascists and progressives aren't the same.

To be fair the $130,000 is for a two year study or $65,000 per year which is a drop in the bucket.

lockner01 Yes, but this drop is just part of a stream of money poured into research that is (in most cases) questionable at best. Outright graft at worst.

Maybe this particular study is valid? IDK. And yes it is very a reasonable cost for that scope, so that's good. It just went along with the idea of children and genders in this post.

5cats Every University has questionable research projects.

I do agree with you that 12-years-old is too early to be deciding what gender yuo want to spend the rest of life being.

lockner01 I've linked a couple relevant studies by the investigators above. The research seems very relevant.
Before making laws to accommodate the LBGT community wouldn't it be nice to study them and understand what is going on? Starting with children makes a lot of sense.

boredhuman I completely agree with you.  I also trust that since this research is being conducted by a real Univeristy they won't be going into it with an set agenda.  Because you know SCIENCE!!
