Photographer Recreates Renaissance Paintings With Auto Mechanics

Submitted by: squrlz4ever 3 months ago in Entertainment

In late 2015, New York-based photographer Freddy Fabris used an auto-mechanic shop in the Midwest to pay homage to some of the great paintings of the Renaissance masters. The results are stunning. The greasy grunge of the autoshop perfectly captures the umber browns of the originals and the lighting--well, it can only be described as inspired.

As Fabris explained when the series was first released, "I selected The Last Supper by Phillipe de Champaigne, The Anatomy Lesson by Rembrandt, and The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo as the main pieces, and then expanded the series with Rembrandt inspired portraits."

Huh. I thought people would enjoy these more. I absolutely love them. Maybe it would've been better if I included images of the original paintings? Here, for example, is Rembrandt's The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp and Fabris's version of it.

I always liked that Last Supper joke:

"Yes, I'd like to make a reservation"
"For how many sir?"
"There are 13 of us"
"Very good sir, table for 13"
"No, table for 26"
"My apologies sir, I thought you said there were 13 of you"
"Ya, there are, but we all want to sit on the same side of the table."

holygod I like that joke! I'd never heard it before.

Also, what's with the rash of downvotes lately? One or two people seem to be going through the threads and downvoting everything.

squrlz4ever Ya, everything I say gets down-voted. No biggie. People are just that pathetic and passive aggressive, oh well.

holygod Maybe we need to be able to see who is downvoting. Nothing like a little sunshine antiseptic.
