Racism is alive and kicking in the uK- young black men (black men in general) are FAR more likely to be stopped by police etc.. they suffer from societal ills going back generations and it'll be a while before they catch up. Compared the the USA though we are a bloody paradise... Im not going back until it's a bit friendlier than it was, and several friends with darker skin and/or funny names have decided to sttay well clear.

...and because there was slavery in the country 150 years ago, it's a horrible, racist place that must be destroyed at any cost.

Now wipe the rabid foam off your mouths and stand up like big boys. No one gives a flying fuck that you millionaires feel 'oppressed'.

squidbush America is a horrible, racist place, but destroyed at any cost, that's a bridge too far.

I don't think they are kneeling cause they feel oppressed, but whatever helps you sleep at night.

They are kneeling because their friends, families and people who look like them other with the difference of only wealth are being oppressed. And its hard to ignore the suffering of people who are just remarkably similar to you.

melcervini that's not what they are protesting. They are protesting the lack of accountability. They are protesting the fact that, apparently, it is legal for police to kill unarmed black people.

holygod That is utter bullshit though, you do know that right?

The word 'apparently' is the problem: reality is that cops are simply NOT allowed to murder Blacks. You do know that, right?

This meme has been pushed by the DNC and MSM for many years. Blacks are victims, it isn't their fault they (drugs, crime, single parents, dropout of school, rap music) it's Whitey's fault!

 & etc.

The number of Blacks killed by police is nothing compared to Blacks killed by Black criminals and gangsters. The BLM 'movement' is based entirely on a lie in every way imaginable.

5cats @ Blacks kill blacks and then they go to jail. Cops kill blacks and then they go back to work.

For fuck's sake, a cop shot Castile while he was sitting in a car with his girlfriend and 4 yr old daughter while he was reaching for his wallet as requested and he was acquitted. I mean what the fuck?

He worked at a school and had no record. He had been pulled over 50+ times for minor driving infractions. He was pulled over that day because he "looked like a robbery suspect".

The guy was harassed, pulled over, and murdered for being black. Plain and simple. How come we can't all be pissed off by this? Why is it a political thing?

holygod It becomes political when the propaganda machines make it so.
He had a gun, he was pulled over legitimately (says the cop, that's questionable actually), the video of it shows he was not following instructions and was acting very suspicious. Also if iirc there were drugs in the car (there was) along with his illegal legal weapon. Which was indeed in his pocket where his hand was placed.

You make it sound like police drive around shooting random Blacks who are just walking down the street. That would be gangs doing that ok?

If a police officer does nothing wrong, why should he be punished or jailed? There's been PLENTY of bad cops arrested and jailed for their crimes while on (or off) duty. This notion of them being able to 'get away with murder' is a myth. Unless you redefine murder to include lawful self defence...

Edited a bit: the officer was charged with murder but there wasn't enough to convict him. I don't see how that is letting him 'get away with it' eh?

5cats "does nothing wrong"

You don't get to murder someone for reaching in their pocket, even if they are black. That is "something wrong".

holygod If they have a gun in that pocket? And you are telling them to NOT REACH for it? But they are refusing to show hands?
Sorry, that is a valid reason to shoot. Not 7 times maybe and maybe not so fast, but still valid.
Because he did have a gun in that pocket, that is a fact we can agree on yes? I honestly think any colour person would have gotten shot in that situation. I think a Black or Asian cop would have shot him  too.
So it isn't 'all about race' ok? That may have factored into getting pulled over, but we don't know that as a fact, just a strong suspicion. You cannot put someone in prison for a decade because you 'suspect' they did something that might be illegal...

5cats I'm sorry, you don't shoot until you see a gun, especially with a woman and small child in the car. No we don't agree. He had a gun in A pocket. I don't know WHICH pocket he was reaching in. Do you?

Maybe it isn't racial. However, I've been pulled over a few times and I've never had a gun drawn on me. I'm pretty sure I could have reached into my pocket and gotten my wallet without getting shot.

holygod the graph is representative of the stats that they're whining about.  "Oppression" gets thrown around when criminals get caught acting like criminals, but not the self-genocide that goes on daily which for some reason is taboo to address.  Also they dont address the fact that whites are shot by cops in double the numbers.

Could it be that they see there are things more important than their sport?

daegog then do it off the clock like everyone else.  You're paid to play football, not grandstand.   Instead of taking a shit in your neighbor's yard because another neighbor shit in yours, is disrespectful to people that have NOTHING to do with what you're bitching about and it only serves to alienate and divide.

melcervini Question how is "kneeling" disrespectful?  You do realize the kneeling thing started because of Colin Kapernick's discussion with a Green Beret right?  That the Green Beret Nate Boyer told him that would be the best way to protest as what he was doing wasn't disrespectful.  He went from sitting to kneeling on this discussion with this Green Beret.

melcervini Kneeling is NOT DISRESPECTING SOLDIERS.  You realize black people or whoever can be offended that you standing during the national anthem because you are disrespecting their lives right?  Do you see this is a two way street here?  Instead of getting butthurt, maybe just maybe,  they wish to respect the flag in the way they see fit, just like you prefer to stand, they prefer to kneel.

Are you putting kneeling in the same vein as stomping, ripping, burning of the flag?

melcervini Are you claiming to be a necromancer?  How can you talk to the dead and know they are feeling disrespected?

I could see if you thought marching around in nazi gear was disrespectful, as 1000s of americans died fighting nazis, that would make some sense.

Claiming that those athletes are disrespecting dead soldiers is a reach, I mean have you heard one of them say something like "I hate dead soldiers?  Or US troops should be killed"?  Now if they are saying that, then you have a point.

Right wingers act like that flag only represents dead soldiers.

daegog The men and women in our military are represented by that flag, it means a great deal to us and has NOTHING to do with rogue cops, NOTHING.  “A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount up to and including their life.” — Unknown

There's no requirement in the NFL to write your blood-type on the back of your shoes (that you got in your million dollar shoe deal)  in case you're killed "at work", nor a need for you at 18 to write your last will and testament.  These players dont represent the "poor and oppressed" they dont have a fucking clue what sacrifice is, if they did, they'd give up their millions and/or time to help clean up the thug-infested ghettos that are the cause of 90% of black crimes instead of taking a knee while drawing their fat paychecks.  Not canonizing socitial shits like Michael Brown, Travon Martin,  Anton Sterling, and Philando Castile, et al.    Its ludicrous to pretend that these "fine, upstanding citizens" were victims of evil white racist cops just for being black when the world knows they were common criminals that played stupid games and won stupid prizes.   Are there criminal cops too?  you betcha! Are they being allowed to get away with their bullshit?  far too much, but inventing outrage over a blatant crime being committed and the police acting accordingly makes their narrative utter bullshit.

melcervini All that military stuff is just a total load of bullshit.  I recall distinctly every day at the end of the work day, they played the anthem, guys were running inside the building so they didn't have to stand there and salute.

That quote is more patriotic bullshit.  A more realistic quote : A veteran is someone, probably from a poor family, who has a high chance of ending up homeless and mentally disturbed after serving a country that gives absolutely no fucks about them.  20+ vets kill themselves every day, and this country does fuck all about it.

This country does not care about it's vets.  It only helps them grudgingly when popular support of a PARTICULAR issue (gulf war syndrome,  agent orange, etc) becomes headlines.

Saying athletes are being disrespectful of vets, given the way the government treats vets is nonsense.  You are mad that someone punched you in the left arm when someone else is taking a hacksaw to both your lets.

Secondly, they did not say they are poor or opressed, NOR do they represent them.  They are bringing an issue to light, because for a little while, they have the ability to do so.

People keep telling them do that on your own time, well fine, there is an organization that does just that.. It's called Black Lives matters, WHOOPS, now you are a "terrorist".

Hold the fuck up, do you work?  Did you give your money away to some poor people someplace?  If you didn't, then why should they?

Why aren't you holding truly wealthy people to that standard or is morality only something poor people should concern themselves with?

melcervini So if you get a gun and invade a country and you die in the process you are deserving of the utmost respect?

However, if you are driving down the street in your own country and you are murdered by police who receive no punishment people aren't allowed to kneel in your honor?

Check.

Just make sure the person you're kneeling for (off the clock)  was **actually** innocent.

melcervini Ya. I dunno. You think Iraqis would rather have Sdadam back in power if it meant stability and their 125,000 countrymen back? You'd have to ask one.

I think the military has some great people in it, but not everything the American military has done has been good for the world. In fact I would argue a metric fuck ton hasn't.

When you start to overly glorify a country, or a flag, or a military to the point where it is "unpatriotic" to question them I think it presents a problem.

melcervini Since when did standing for the national anthem become part of the game of football? Is there a yellow flag for not standing? Or do you just automatically lose the coin toss? How is it incorporated into the game?

You've got your knickers in a twist about what is probably the most minor act of civil disobedience possible - it's an act that inconveniences zero people.

barry9a Participating in pre-game activities is mandatory. Warm-ups, introductions and yes the National Anthem. Even if not specifically named it is part of the pre-game show and should be respectfully observed.
Or fine each player $100,000 and let them bend the knee all they like, that  works for me too :-)

Making a sporting event political is not a minor issue. The people who pay to see a game don't want to be lectured about things that are pure bullshit. They are voting with their wallets and NOT buying NFL tickets or merchandise because THEY (the fans) are the ones using civil disobedience to protest :-)

Kaepernick started kneeling because of police and judicial injustices towards african americans.
The players today are kneeling because Trump is a racist and stirring the pot.
Why people are upset is beyond me? You don't have to personally be the person affected by an injustice to want to protest it and our country is the force for good that is it because people who have little to gain in the matter HAVE stood up and protested injustices time and time again. The reason why women are able to vote is because men stood up with them. The reason why the civil rights movement succeeded is because some whites stood with them. The reason why gay marriage is legal now is because some straight people stood with them. And the reason why poor black people may finally start to get justice in the american legal system is because some rich people will stand with them. It is not rocket science.

bookofmorty What injustice are you talking about?  Brawley? Mangum? Martin? Brown?
What isn't rocket science is knowing that gangs are the real problem for Blacks in America and the police are the only solution. Like you just (rightly!) said: it takes 'both sides' to find a solution. Attacking and murdering cops in the streets is not going to help the BLM cause.

Welcome to IAB!
