Democrats Threaten Senate Logjam Without Stand-Alone Vote On DACA

Submitted by: trimble 1 month ago in News & Politics

I don't know about creating a "logjam", seems like there already is one, in general, for the most part but they need to vote on this now, not six months from now. I'm pretty sure congress could come up with a favorable plan for all if they would just do something for once.

An excerpt from CNN: Congressional Democrats on Wednesday demanded a stand-alone vote on a solution for undocumented immigrants protected under DACA -- threatening to logjam the fall session if they don't get one.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer drew a line in the sand for Republican congressional leaders.

"We're calling on (House Speaker Paul) Ryan and (Senate Majority Leader Mitch) McConnell to immediately put the Dream Act for a vote on the floor in the House and Senate," Schumer said. "I'm confident that if put on the floor, it will garner overwhelming support from both sides of the aisle."

So politics as it was last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and so on?

normalfreak2 I think the strategy is to attach the dream act as an amendment to any other legislation, forcing a vote on it as an amendment. Or something like that.

So these "Children" are more important to Democrats than the 300+ million Citizens of these United States? Just checking.

Shelworth The only difference between them and those 300 million citizens is that they missed being born in this country by a maximum of 6 years.

College educated. No criminal record. They're more "American" than a lot of Americans out there, and far better people than a lot of "Americans" out there as well.

The republicans have a majority, how do the propose to create this logjam?

Can they consistently get enough stray republicans to vote their way?  Seems unlikely.

daegog They're going to do what the Republicans did while Obama was President. Republicans tried to place an Amendment over some 300 times in order to repeal the ACA so that no legislation would pass. Democrats are simply following in the Republican's footsteps.
