Life On Us: A Microscopic Safari Of Creatures That Live On Our Bodies

Submitted by: daegog 3 weeks ago in Science

Fascinating and disgusting in equal measures. Each one of us is a walking ecosystem teeming with a wide variety of life forms in their trillions.

Now, using new camera technology, these creatures can be revealed: Microscopic organisms that ooze from the pores on our face, worms that are now being purposefully inserted into our intestines, and microbes that can even change the way that we behave.

From cancer to allergies, depression to flesh eating diseases these creatures could influence us in ways we are only now beginning to understand. We are not simply human, we are a unique and diverse collection of life forms.

This is the untold story of Life on us.

I do wonder why doctors don't check for certain parasites as a standard for behavior diagnosis's. Is there no test for that?

markust123 Proper psychological protocols state that the subject be sent for a complete medical exam first to rule out physical causes first and they should screen for such behavioral affecting parasites then

I heard about a show like this years ago. Did not want to watch it. Now they have one that is even clearer. No way. I am a marginal germaphobe. Stuff like opening the bathroom door with a paper towel or washing my hands when I get home from being out. I think this show could really screw me up.

markust123 Most of the creatures living on the human body are unique  to that individual and are beneficial
Eventually criminologists would be able to identify a suspect by the bacteria left behind on say a bloody glove or a murder weapon

Not watched it, don't want nightmares. Sounds fascinating though, especially the worms in intestines. I've always wondered if they could be used in a controlled setting for weight loss xD
