Submitted by: thezigrat 1 month ago in Science

And you thought Earth was weird. Places where water is constantly burning, planets where half the world is molten the other half frozen and more.

What's up with these planet names? J1407b, HD 106906b, Wasp 1449b? I think Astronomers are getting lazy.

meh, more assumptions thinking they know the composition of things many light years away, when they still don't know the composition of things in our own solar system.  "water planets!"   "planets made of a diamond!", yeah nice 'stories' but no one can get there to prove it, so it's just an assumption.

'scientisim' is a joke

Others are doing a fine job addressing your repeated assertions about 'assumptions'.

But, you create your own reality.

Monk: "I'm not trolling now jay" ; "Yes i i am a troll to your.." ; "..would you agree that i am trolling a troll.." (from your link)

Male 5,475
jaysingrimm Actually it's you who is creating your own reality to hide the fact that you're a troll.  I openly admit that trolls consider me trolls.

As for the other post it too is just an assumption, no one knows how it is.  It's amazing how arrogant people get trying to assert something light years away is as a story someone told it to be, when we don't even know whats in our own planet.
-1

Male 5,475
Gerry1of1 you should take your own advice, since i'm simply pointing out the assumptions, that no one can prove.  It's simply a story that won't be verified in our lifetimes, or likely within the next several hundred years.
-3

Male 39,955
monkwarrior Is that what you think you are doing?

They CAN prove them. That's what makes is science and not religion
4
Reply
Male 5,475
Gerry1of1 they can't prove that there is an ocean of "water" they don't know if it's H2o, or poisonous heavy water.  They don't know that a whole planet is made of diamond, since again, they don't even know what is in the earth.

Again, they can 'theorize', but they don't know.  The stories that are being told in this video aren't making that distinction.

monkwarrior uhm enceladus is spewing thousands of gallons of salt water into the atmosphere creating the so called e-ring of saturn. and its hot water too. heated by the friction created from the gravitation forces of saturn. we know this to be true. i know you personally arent there to witness it. but that doesnt make it untrue. were you there at building 7 when it blew up? no. yet it seems to be your rallying cry, so what gives dude. are you the worlds biggest hypocrite or just a black hole of dumb.

monkwarrior "fact" is not "assumption" .  Specific things reflect the spectrum at specific wavelengths and therefore can be measure exactly.... NOT assumption. NOT a guess.  Sorry science bugs you so much but the real world won't change to suit you
3
Reply
Male 5,475
Gerry1of1 the fact is that no one is there to verify the assumptions you call 'fact'.  At this early stage no one can say for sure how things are multiple light years away, their knowledge of things that far away is iffy at best.

Gerry1of1 we have had many people take apart and document the human body.  No one has gone lower than 12km under the surface of the earth.  No one has seen or tested what is below that.  Again, they can theorize, but they don't know.

Becoming the judgements you mete out on others, huh?

monkwarrior No, the Bible and Quran are made up stories. Science is real
2
Reply
Male 5,475
Gerry1of1 Again, stories of the distant planets are not 'real' they are simply stories.  The stories of the bible can teach people how to find God.  Just because you didn't and don't see the value in them doesn't mean the value is not there for others.  Where is the value in the stories of 'scientism' that no one can prove?  There is none, because those stories become truth and then they need to be broken down again, bringing wastes of time.  It's totally unscientific to make up  these stories of what no one can witness.

monkwarrior if you understand that diamond is really just made of carbon and that carbon is one of the most common elements in the known galaxy, why is a planet made of diamond that hard to picture?

Is your brain really that scientifically limited?  How did you become so stunted?
3
Reply
Male 6,158
daegog They even found a dead star that is basically a huge diamond formed from its core so why is a diamond planet surprising?
3
Reply
Male 5,475
daegog Oh i understand that a diamond is made of carbon, but the reality is we don't even know for sure what is in the earth, they simply assume.  So assuming that an entire planet is made of a diamond is far fetched, and they would need to get there and prove their story first.  Why they made a story to waste everyone's time is a bit ridiculous.

Also is your brain really that scientifically limited to believe that an entire planet would be made of one diamond?

monkwarrior Were you born this stupid or did you study for it. We know exactly what is in the earth. I don't know who told different but pick up a book an learn something.
3
Reply
Male 5,475
Gerry1of1 Again, no one has proven it, but assumed it. In Geology, we can’t say 90% of the things with certainty. Entire Geophysics depends solely on interpretation of data as instruments can’t produce results.

If you ask geologists if they know exactly what is in the earth, the answer would be no. They can theorize, yes, but KNOW?  No.

Take your advice, and try to stay silent.

kalron27 what a delusional statement, it's not that the book you're referring to hasn't inspired the explosion of scientific discovery, as Proverbs 111:2 is like the basis of science.

People who hate as pettily as you do are quite ridiculous though, so it kind of makes sense you would say delusional things like that.

When proverbs was written, someone had to develop the techniques to allow that crap to be written on lambskin/human skin.

Proverbs has FUCK ALL to do with scientific discoveries, its just more rambling by some ancient quack who wanted other peoples chattel.

daegog so you claim, but as Proverbs 111:2 states:

" Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them."

That is what scientists do every day.

monkwarrior You know what really inspired scientist types?

Star Trek

The number of people that became doctors, engineers and scientists DIRECTLY because of the original series is incredible.

Several Schools have given Bones, Spock and McCoy honorary doctorates for being the primary motivator for so many of their students.

THAT is inspiration monk.  Where are all these scientists that said they were inspired by proverbs 111:2?

spanz they're still stories that will take a long time to prove.  Assuming people get their head out of the clouds and start focusing on the problems right here.  If not we may never prove it, since we'll be dead.

Male 941
monkwarrior That's the problem, monk, as you know--too many people don't need or want the proof; the speculation based on some facts is enough for them to be convinced that they are facts.  As you said, if people would get their heads out of the clouds of assumption, we could take the facts we do have and expand them exponentially.  It's really slowing down actual scientific progress.

rumham  GPR and magnetic tests provided by the Voyager probes highly suggest there may be liquid water under the crusts of both Pluto and Charon. In the Lem expeditions on the moon  they found bacteria growing on various equipment sent up in the 1960s, although it terrestrial in origin resulted
human  contamination. (This is the reason for strict anti-contamination protocols for all future space craft) If bacteria can survive in such an environment why not elsewhere?
