Look For Military Drones To Begin Replacing Police Helicopters By 2025

Submitted by: trimble 1 month ago in News & Politics

Begun, the Drone Wars have.

From Defense One: By 2025, enormous military-style drones – close relatives of the sort made famous by counterterrorism strikes in Afghanistan and Iraq – will be visible 2,000 feet above U.S. cities, streaming high-resolution video to police departments below. That is the bet that multiple defense contractors are placing, anyway, as they race to build unmanned aircraft that can pass evolving airworthiness certifications and replace police helicopters. And if that bet pays off, it will radically transform the way cities, citizens, and law enforcement interact.

Still can't believe they fly NYC nightly with a multi-million dollar perv-machine. Free fucking country? Not if this shit keeps getting worse.

rumham LOL! I love the Pimpbot 5000. Never heard of it before your link, Rumham, so thanks. I am going to be adopting some of his expressions going forward for sure.

cjeffblanchr I'm not sure, but I believe TheThing911 is referring to a police helicopter that has visible light and infrared cameras that allow the police to look deep into people's houses and apartments. It can also capture the conversations inside a room by reflecting a laser beam off the building's window panes (small vibrations on the glass caused by soundwaves inside are translated electronically back into audio).

squrlz4ever Oh well, then yeah, that's a fair description.  I did not know they were using technology like that yet.

How has Mr. Squrlz been lately?

cjeffblanchr I've been well. I'm trying to readjust to my humdrum Pennsylvania life after a week on the Outer Banks, which is a bit of a downer, truth be told. I was at a beach house that had a large covered deck with rocking chairs that looked out on the Atlantic Ocean. You could sit there with your mug of coffee in the mornings and listen to the surf and watch the seagulls. *sigh* It was nice and I miss it.

How are you doing? I forget your whereabouts. You aren't anywhere near Harvey are you? I hope not.

rumham No snorting involved. I think it's the change of seasons or something.

squrlz4ever Sounds nice.  I love watching the ocean and the gulls.

I am in Kentucky, so I don't make it to the ocean too often.  I'm doing okay though.  Just trying to enjoy my life with my dog as much as possible.

cjeffblanchr Generally speaking, one day at a time is a great approach. Especially if you have a dog to keep you company.  :)
