San Francisco Airport Near-Miss Might Have Triggered The "Greatest Aviation Disaster In History"

Submitted by: 5cats 6 months ago in News & Politics

When the incoming Air Canada 759 lined up to land in San Francisco Airport (SFO), the pilot asked why there were lights on the runway. It turns out he had lined up to land on the taxiway, which had four big-bodied passenger aircraft sitting on it, readying for takeoff.

The Controller calmly ordered AC 759 to 'go around' which they immediately did, coming as low as 60 feet (some estimates say) as they flew over the 4 other jets. Investigators estimate it would have been the worst aviation disaster in history.

I landed there an hour or so before this happened. That'll teach me to ever go back to California...

Wait, wait, wait. Now we're reporting on shit that, could've happened? You guys remembering hearing about that massive aircraft collision at SFO. No? Yea. Becuase it didn't fucking happen. Near misses happen all the time, this is just a news crew that's fucking desperate and had nothing real to report.

thething911 Well, it would have been the worst aviation disaster in history had it happened. That counts as news. Like when a meteor flies past the Earth, it's good to be aware of these things.
And it was an Air Canada flight, so it got reported by the CBC eh?
I feel sorry for the pilot, AC has a history of throwing their pilots under the bus and some terrible passenger abuses too.

It is actually amazing this doesn't happen more often! O_o

Soon SkyNet will fly all the aircraft and they will have perfect safety records! Lolz!

FancyLad did a terrific job of adding some nice pictures and that video :-) Thx!

5cats Yep, scary stuff right there, oddly similar to the Tenerife air disaster which holds the title of the deadliest aviation incident.
