An Academic Perspective On Trump, Political Correctness, Islam, Immigration, And More

Submitted by: boredhuman 2 months ago in News & Politics

Gad Saad is a a Lebanese-Canadian evolutionary behavioral scientist. Sam Harris is an American author, philosopher, and neuroscientist.

Yes, this is a 2 hour, brainy video. Try not to fall asleep.

daegog This video is more about the process rather than conclusions. It's like asking to see the trailer for a movie instead of watching a movie. BTW, there's nothing wrong with asking to see a trailer before potentially investing into a shitty movie... so:
One highlight was Saad arguing for supporting Trump (7 minutes).

Woah woah woah, you're posting this here? Just wait until the regressive left joins the comments to somehow imply that Saad or Harris are somehow alt-right neonazis for not supporting the influx of Islam.

Fojos As a liberal, I respect both Harris' and Saad's opinions to the point where I have listened to several hours of their dialogue each. I don't always agree with them, but their opinions are valid. I know i'm not alone among liberals, so watch it with the blanket denunciations or you'll sound as foolish as those you insult.

mrsnowmeiser Are you an actual liberal or a democrat pretending to be liberal (while in reality being an authoritarian regressive)?

Did I say anything about liberals in the first post? I'm not American, the regressive left has overtaken 7/8 legislative parties in my own half-socialist country (capitalist market with everything else controlled by the state, like paying 60% of your taxes without ever actually benefitting from it, since it all goes to islamic "refugees".

monkwarrior Ahhh THAT is what you call WMD. Somehow i'm not surprised you're calling intellectuals delusional.
Just curious: how does fighting the regressive left fit in with your concept of WMD?

boredhuman Unfortunately Sam Harris is a well known militant atheist who rejects reason, and also relies heavily on fallacies.  I've seen a number of his debates, where when he was starting to lose his demeanor dived into it.

monkwarrior - I must confess a few of his views bother me- I am an atheist, but as long as your belief does not impact negatively on others it bothers me not a whit. I enjoy a choral evensong at the Cathedral, I just think religion should serve its creator- humanity.

Always irritates me when this is a video. I like to listen to stuff while I work- but a two hour video simply won't play- even if I could work out how to download it onto my phone. they should offer audio only too...

madduck Here's the audio podcast link (150mb download): https://www.samharris.org/podcast/item/the-frontiers-of-political-correctness

waldo863 Sam Harris does ask for donations, but i don't think donations are required to use his content... It's better to be paid by users of content rather than businesses/government, right?

There are several audio->text converters, although i haven't used them yet. Should be very useful to search for interesting topics.

madduck IKR.  This is perfect podcast material.  It doesn't need to be a video.  Just like guides for games.  Why is everything a video guide nowadays?  What happened to good old text guides?  If I just get stuck on one particular part it is far easier for me to open a text guide, hit Ctrl-F and find the the spot I need without having anything else spoiled for me.  In a video guide, I have to either watch the whole thing, or sit there skipping through trying to find the spot I need, sometimes over shooting and seeing a a spoiler.  It's quite frustrating.

The reasoning why is simple though.  A popular podcast does not make as much money as a popular video.  A good text guide makes no money other than if they ask for and get donations.  It's all about money.  The more times you have to go back to the video, the more views it gets, the more money is made.
