Can we stop pretending that the Star Wars is actually good. It's okay as far as kids movies go but that's about it

dm2754 You can say that about a lot of "art" though. The Ramones first album -- OK, all their albums aren't -- technically proficient, but they have spirit. Personally, I'll take spirit over gloss.

dm2754 It is primarily a kids franchise, I don't think anyone pretends otherwise, just like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, made for younger audiences but still popular with adults.

It's no worse than any of the other main-steam movie garbage out there in my opinion, just look at the torrent of incredibly tedious superhero films, the endless sequels and reboots, all things considered, Star Wars certainly isn't the worst offender.

mrteatime I agree wholeheartedly. Sure they're fun movies but they are not great

It's not looking good.  I suspect i'm going to be proven right and that VII was the end of star wars.  Still, i'm willing to give VIII a chance to redeem it, but it looks like it's not going to at this rate..

monkwarrior Like most mainstream entertainment Star Wars follows a simple formula which has worked for many years and I'm sure will work for many more.

mrteatime unfortunately for VII it deviated from a formula that worked in favor of story telling, to one that worked more in favor for greed since the story was the worst i've seen.  Still, VIII has a chance, but it's not looking good.

monkwarrior The storytelling in each Star Wars film is fairly simplistic, nothing has really changed from the originals through to the current films. Easy to follow and based largely on action sequences.

mrteatime unfortuantely VII was a total rip-off of the original trilogy, and disney hyped it market-wise even though it was the poorest of the series.  Even on IMDB more people hated it than those who loved it.

monkwarrior I think the Star Wars franchise is going to out-live all of us.  Doesn't even matter if its good or not.

Star Wars technology has come a long way since 1977. (Behind the scenes from A New Hope.)
