Brian Greene Makes Stuff Levitate, Seriously

Submitted by: rumham 9 months ago in Science

Brian Greene is the best. Like Richard feynman and Carl Sagan, Green has a knack of explaining big ideas very simply, but without dumbing them down. This science experiment isn't groundbreaking, but it's the basis for quantum physics in a general sense.

Sadly, they don't do the two slit experiment.  They talk about it, but they don't do it.

Science is easy. Explain gravity? Gravity is distortion of spacetime and spacetime is...

boredhuman The funnest question I often get is : When the big bang happened and the universe expanded, what did it expand into?  what is outside the universe ?

When i first heard of the double slit experiment, I was fucked in the head for about a week.  Then i thought, meh.. Certainty is overrated.

daegog Funny enough, reading about the double slit didn't do it for me.  Actually conducting the experiment really hits home.  Then going back and walking through the math solidified it.

Then having your teacher/professor expand the concept and push all the implications (quantum tunneling, for example) starts to make you think.
