Emperor Penguins Are On Their Way To Extinction By The End Of This Century

Submitted by: rumham 4 months ago in Science

That being said humans may not see the end of the century either. Happy Sunday, IAB.

An excerpt from Science Magazine: Emperor penguins are known for braving the harsh Antarctic winters, but they might not be able to brave the harsh realities of climate change. That’s the finding of a new study, which suggests that by the end of this century, the world’s largest penguins may be no more. Previous research suggested that rapidly warming air and sea temperatures—which melt sea ice—might cause their numbers to plummet by as much as 19% by 2100.

Ya there going the way of the Bald Eagle and the polar bear ops there not endangered in fact are coming back. Besides there are a number of Scientists that study the sun they all say that the sun is in a major cooling period so that should take care of the problem for now.

Draculya Why cant you understand English. Or follow the tread of global warming causing the Emperor Penguins Extinction? What part of the sun is in a major cooling not seen sense the mini Ice Age do you not understand. Yes I did not mention the last part (in my thread) only that the sun seems to be cooling beyond the normal cycles.

isn't 2100 the end of this century?  How does dropping 19% equal extinction?  Granted, I'm no math whiz, so maybe my calculations are off.

skeeter01 Yup, 19% = extinction now. The study it is based on says 50% in a 'worst case' scenario where the penguins are too stupid to, you know, adapt and move to where the ice still is :/
Honestly, this is VERY typical of AGW hysteria.
Keywords: maybe, 100 years, reduction, 'models say', possibly...

Great news! The Emperor penguins have been ruling over the other penguins for far to long. Long live penguin independence!

The longer we wait the harder it will be.  But it's like the threshold has passed, and people would rather wait.  It's going to take something radical for humankind to band together and eradicate the destructive forces of greed that rape this world for its own gain, leaving waste to everyone and everything in it's charge for more.

We need to all stand up, and force those polluters to stop, because we know the danger pollution is causing, and are intelligent enough to take the reigns and steer it back to sensibility.  A lot of people understand the delicate balance of this world, and that the human race is its caretaker.  It just takes it to reach the threshold of those who want to stand up for harmony to surpass those who are moving in greed for it to begin.  Its getting close, this is something i've been watching for a long time.  But those who are moving in greed are quite happy as long as it goes their way, because that way they're still getting the gravy.

Four simple words can move it along, folks.  four.  simple. words.  Four simple words against one of the greatest terrorist regimes the world has ever seen, yet which can bring it to its knees to keel over and die.  Then you can stand up for harmony.  Remove the block of greed and corruption in governance - it's the information age, and the future expects it of us now.

monkwarrior Vote with your money. It doesn't take any grandstanding or collective effort. The mistake people make is in assuming they are powerless without some outside interventionist force making people do certain things. You said it yourself, the information is out there, if you choose to look for it. Buy solar panels, look up alternative energy methods and don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.

moldysod While it will work for the individiual, it's a bit of a selfish route if you ask me.  On par with ignoring the poor, or the less fortunate.  It gives them a way to say "i'm an individual and frig everyone else"  and that's exactly what happens to everyone else.  We're all in this situation together, and dividing ourselves that way makes us weaker. I'm reminded of a quote:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

monkwarrior I agree but I think you missed the point, if you are waiting for other people to change, you'll be waiting a long time. You have to be the change you want to see, like Gandhi said.

That being said, keep up the verbal fight. We do need to defend righteous ideas in the age of nihilism.
