This Rare Video Is Purported To Be Bruce Lee In His "Only Real Fight Ever Recorded"

Submitted by: fancylad 4 months ago in Sports

This is the only recording of Bruce Lee in a real MMA fight. He's fighting Ted Wong here, one of his top students. They're wearing protective gear because they weren't allowed to fight without them. While it’s unclear exactly where the fight took place, it was most likely in California, where Lee had his Jeet Kune Do school.

It COULD be bruce lee, the speed and style (focusing on counter strikes) seem to be right..

I true shame that they didn't use more high speed photography for this kinda thing, granted before digital became norm, high speed stuff was incredibly expensive.

Great up either way, thank you.

that was very nice, he was very masterful and calm.  i also liked the full protection gear, i think it would be nice to bring that sort of thing back (if it helped).  today's mma is too barbaric for civilization.

monkwarrior That's what I noticed immediately, as well -- his calmness when fighting. It's like he was moving at half-speed, yet was always in control. A fucking master.

monkwarrior It'd never happen (protection gear). Not many fans would pay to see fully protected fighters scoring points. Most MMA fans want to see KO's or TKO's .
I remember the first MMA match. A sumo wrestler's (Teila Tuli) tooth came flying out of his mouth from a kick to his face. He also sustained a punch to the face. His opponent (Gerard Gordeau) broke his own hand and foot off of Tuli's face but still fought twice more including the final where he lost to Royce Gracie by rear naked choke.

oobaka Those early Gracie days were the best -- can't compare to today -- it was more brains over brawn.

monkwarrior Even though it is counter intuitive, MMA fighters are at lower risk for long term damage than boxers are. The sport has been around for a while now and there isn't a preponderance of examples of concussions and long term brain trauma like there is with boxing.

Its sorta like how rugby players tackle each other without pads and don't end up with messed up brains. Meanwhile NFL players have helmets and pads and wind up with all kinds of brain trauma. The pads make people hit way harder at the detriment to their long term health.

holygod Plus in boxing and football there are more shots to the head and less body blows than mma and rugby. The helmets embolden players to ram others with their head and boxers more often go for the head
