Pro-Gun Blogger, Bob Owens, Commit Suicide Yesterday, His Fans Are Calling It A Conspiracy

Submitted by: fancylad 6 months ago in News & Politics

Bob Owens, editor of the popular pro-gun blog BearingArms.com killed himself yesterday from a gun shot to the head.

An autopsy will be conducted to figure out how he died -- police said the gunshot wound was “possibly … self-inflicted," but you don't have to be a genius to figure out he took himself out. According to his final Facebook message posted...

it's not very difficult to figure out he chose the cowards way out -- his words, but there are people on his Facebook page who are already claiming that there's a cover-up here -- murder.

Either way, if you're thinking about killing yourself, don't -- there are lots of people who'll help you out -- if you're an IAB regular, my guess is everyone here will listen.

Ban Bridges! People commit suicide off them:

The Red Bridge: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0257005/

Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Duchess_Charlotte_Bridge

There's an excellent documentary about it: but it isn't on YouTube :p

This is a good post with a good message - you are not alone, ask for help before pissing away everything.  Why the down-votes?

woodyville06 Right wing paranoia essentially. The right wingers on this site can't tolerate anything that even remotely challenges their thinking or could be construed to do so. I use the word thinking loosely.

Don't be like them.

woodyville06 He was a conservative blogger, many IAB liberals are happy he's dead.
NF2 for sure... he opposes allowing conservatives to use any "social safety net" because he feels they 'don't deserve' it, even though they've paid for it...

Let's not turn this into a gun debate. If he didn't have a house full of guns he just would have used a baseball bat or a hammer.

Maybe not a baseball bat or a hammer, but probably hanging, pills, jumping off a bridge, or parking his car in his garage with the engine running.

richanddead No doubt. I was half tongue in cheek. There are a myriad of ways to kill yourself. However, would you agree that if you have a house full of loaded guns you can decide to kill yourself and be dead inside of 30 seconds?

Everything else you described takes way, way, WAY more time. Maybe enough time to rethink things? Or someone to find you and intervene? Or you to fail?

Nothing compares to the immediacy, simplicity, and finality of a gun.

Yea, sure, it's possible but I also think you could if you didn't have a house of guns. Making a slip knot to hang yourself, or slitting your own throat, or jumping in your car and flooring it into a telephone pole are also really quick, simple, and final.

I also agree with whosaidwhat that the vast majority suicides are not quick affairs. Many people set up plans days or weeks in advance and use drugs or alcohol beforehand to combat the fear of killing one's self.

richanddead This is a fact! Most gun suicides have bought the guns months or years in advance, sometimes with the express intention of suicide.
Yes some are "spontaneous" but most are carefully planned for weeks or months. Just like you and whosaid said.
Should we ban all guns everywhere so some few people will not kill themselves? Why not ban ropes, knives or bridges then too? (not sarc, seriously!)

richanddead Lolz, I knew about that!

Fun story: I said this on IAB and a British Person got SO mad at me, said I was a liar. I said go check for yourself, so she did.
She went to a store and asked the clerk, and he told her all the laws and paperwork for buying a kitchen knife over (iirc) 3" in length...she apologized :-D

holygod With a house full of guns? No, I couldn't decide to kill myself and be dead inside of 30 seconds. It would take me hours to decide which one to use! All joking aside though, this is not something I would do, personally, under normal circumstances. Maybe, if I were terminally ill, and in a lot of suffering, but otherwise, no. I love me way too much, and I'm not that big a coward that I would run from my problems by killing myself.

You could at least link his site: https://bearingarms.com/
Oh, it is mentioned there in the description.

It is filled with news about guns, mostly pro-  but some con- as well. It's called reporting the facts, something the MSM has ceased to do...

And I read that he was extremely sick in the weeks leading up to his death, IDK what sort. Obviously he suffered from mental illness of some kind.

He used to blog at Confederate Yankee some 12+ years ago:

5cats Nah. The "MSM" just doesn't report the batshit crazy, basement dwelling gun-nut, tin foil hat conspiracy rantings that form YOUR world view. They still report facts. Keep thinking random crackpots on youtube and fringe blogs are the only reliable source of information. Its working out smashingly for you so far....

He died of natural causes. Shot in the head so, naturally, he died. (Yes, I know, not everyone who gets shot in the head dies from the wound.)
Joking aside, it's a shame he felt pushed to this.

It's a tragedy, most suicides are.

Of course NF2 will be happy, since he believes that no "right winger" should ever be allowed to use the "Social Safety Net" that allegedly exists to help the mentally ill...
