No One Is Happy With Trump's Proposed Laptop Ban On Incoming Flights Into The US

Submitted by: fancylad 6 months ago in News & Politics

Talks between the US and the European Nation will take place this Wednesday -- the topic of discussion will be Trump's proposed laptop ban on all incoming flights coming into the United States from 10 European airports (including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey).

Some are predicting longer lines, flight delays, and general confusion, while others are saying this laptop ban is "the biggest win for the terrorists since 9/11" as a good portion of travelers affected come in on business with laptops.

Question 1.. Why can Trump trust the Intelligence Agencies with THIS particular issue (terrorist using laptops as bombs) when he has so frequently ripped them for being incompetent?

Question 2.. Has that Mexico sent the money for that wall yet?

daegog Regarding question #1 - They're clearly right when they agree with him. They're clearly wrong when they disagree with him. Reminds me of my wife.

daegog Mexico is currently being audited by the IRS. They said they'll pay for the wall once the IRS is done with their audits.

I kind of feel like this is over kill specially sense that it is not based on a specific threat. making every one of the electronics preform some how seams reasonable if done properly but even that can be faked if they try hard enough.  But on the same hand they quote a problem with the other ends ability to check the electronics. And this fear can probably be traced right back to the unregulated influx of refuges from the middle east. Actions have consequences.

I'm extremely curious to see the trash can at the TSA screening area that is filled with laptops right next to the trash can filled with water bottles.

I didn't know that the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey were now considered Europe or that there is now a "European Nation".

I don't see a good reason for the laptop ban.

chicagojay Yeah, it's not like laptops could hide explosives or anything

Oh look, it's already happened.

The odds of being on an airplane with a bomb is 1 million to one.  The chances of being on an airplane with TWO bombs is 1 Million to a million to one.  So do what I do...bring your own bomb.

megrendel Here's something perhaps a bit scary, though. The TSA has around a 95% failure rate in detecting contraband being intentionally smuggled through as a test of the system. Thats not a very acceptable number.

chicagojay The advantage of banning laptops on these flights is that, for some people at least, it makes it look like President Rump is doing something about security.
