I'll bet that they were toasted acorns.

It was the work of acorn woodpeckers in California--they live in clans and they all worked together to fill that sucker up.  I doubt they had any way to get them out, though.

I volunteer to sit there and take the furry little critters and put them in my stew pot. No way that was just one.

I say the woodpecker and the squirrel teamed up.

Squirrel or woodpecker, it's a great investment for future generations - in a decade there's going to be a whole oak forest  obscuring that microwave link.

I believe this was the life savings of a woodpecker. Regardless, it's much better to save for retirement with an IRA or 401(k). My Acorn Index Fund has been doing remarkably well, thank you. Nom nom nom!

If the squirrel was underneath that antenna when it let loose it would be like winning the squirrel-lottery

Squirrels or woodpeckers I wish the critters would remove the acorns like that around my property. Some years it's like walking on marbles.

That must haven taken the squirrel years to stash that many acorns away -- another example of man destroying nature's order.
