UK Is Running Without Coal Power For A Full Working Day, Today

Submitted by: fancylad 4 months ago in

According to The Guardian, the UK is going to have its first ever working day without coal power generation since the Industrial Revolution. It's also set to be the first 24-hour coal-free period in Britain.

Ben Caldecott, director of the sustainable finance program at the University of Oxford said, "The first country to use coal for electricity is now on the cusp of being the first major economy to completely phase it out. Doing so will improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and help attract investment into more reliable and secure alternatives."

Denmark generally runs several days out of a year entirely on wind power.

My brother is in the energy business.  Modern nuclear is a generally safe option. It is good that coal is being phased out. Renewables are still not yet real economical without government subsidies.

The UK coal industry has been in decline for decades. When I was a kid there were probably over a million miners; today, just a couple of thousand.

There goes the Welsh economy. Does Wales have anything besides coal?

Side not, watch COAL HOUSE.  3 families live back in time in a coal village . Modern people living in olden times is one of my favorite type of history shows. the sequel COAL HOUSE AT WAR is also fun

“Getting rid of coal from our energy mix is exciting and hugely important. But it’s not enough to achieve our international commitments to tackle climate change "

See? They wont be happy until we all stop breathing.
