monkerz the screaming vibrato with natural compression.  That is a pretty unique quality.  His scream range is very impressive.  I was a trained singer through high school and when I got into my first band, one of the voices I modeled my "rock voice" after was his.  Really complex vocal qualities.

I remember when Kurt Loder came on MTV news to break that he had died.  I was standing outside of my girlfriends house smoking a cigarette, watching the tv (couldnt hear a thing obviously).  She came out with a sad look on her face and told me.  I dont know what she thought my reaction was going to be but, she tiptoed around it like she was telling I had just died, lol.

This one is probably the saddest story from my generation of musicians.  The whole ending, alone...just sad.  Alice in Chains was such a great band with so much diversity.  Man in a Box, to Would? to the whole Jar of Flies album...such talent.  Like any well tuned band, they just weren't the same without Layne but I'm glad the rest of the band moved on to other things and did go the replacement route.

RIP and a reminder of how H is still a serious problem.

My cousin is friends with Layne's mother. I was at one of the memorial concerts having drinks with his mother watching a tribute band sing his songs. That was really bizarre.
