How To Make A Cooler, Better, And More Humane Mouse Trap

Submitted by: holygod 6 months ago in Misc

This really is a neat, simple, bordering-on-genius trap that looks like it would be fun to make. I don't have any mice where I live, but I wish I knew about this 3 years ago when my son's gerbil escaped. That little fucker took forever to find.

Aparently there's a whole section of youtube that dedicates their time to finding new and interesting ways to kill rodents.

One major problem with "humane" mouse traps. If you release the mouse anywhere near your house, it will be back inside within a day. If you release it near any other habitation, it will be inside that habitation within a day. Kill the little bastards, and they don't get back in anywhere! My personal favorite is an electric trap. When they go in for a snack, they get electrocuted! Sadly, they no longer make them.

I am supremely unconcerned with how the mouse dies as long as it does.

Gerry1of1 Well, the point of a humane trap is that the mouse doesn't die.  It's just to catch them and release them elsewhere.

waldo863 Or you could spring load the closed end of the trap, add a trigger so when the mouse tilts the tube it flings the rodent at high speed onto a target on a far wall. Mouse Cannon!

waldo863  you could rig the cylinder up to an electric motor to spin it at a couple hundred rpms. Give the mouse the final ride of its life. Dizzy Mousies!

only works if you have one mouse to trap. Human trap with more efficiency may be a rolling log trap:

But what do you do next. Put it in the pool? Bang it against the ground? Shake the living be watsis out of it and mage a mouse shake out of him? Or maybe we lock him in the bathroom with the kittah!

scheckydamon You take the whole contraption with you to work and let it loose in the parking lot.  That's what I do anyway.  Well, not with a trap like this, but with other humane traps.  Have a much larger trap for possums and raccoons.  Had raccoons getting in to my attic, trapped them one at a time, let them go behind the office since we have a nice wooded area back there for them to live in.

waldo863 If it's a job you don't like... Let them loose in the office, say the bathroom etc.
