This Woman Voted For Trump And Now The Government Is Deporting Her Husband

Submitted by: normalfreak2 4 months ago in News & Politics

See the man in the turquoise shirt in the photo above? That's Roberto Beristain, a 43-year-old steakhouse restaurant owner from Granger, Indiana who illegeally entered the US in 1997. He can't vote, but his wife did and she voted for Trump.

Now, he's in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers after being detained for a voluntary deportation order that he basically ignored. That said, he checked in with ICE every year to maintain his work permit.

For 17 or so years, nothing was made of his annual ICE check-in -- the visit became routine. Then this year, Beristain and was informed he was being detained until he was deported back to Mexico.

Roberto's wife, Helen Beristain told Indiana Public Media she voted for President Trump believing that only "killers" and cartel members would be deported.

"We don’t want to have cartels here, you don’t want to have drugs in your high schools, you don’t want killers next to you," she said. "You want to feel safe when you leave your house. I truly believe that. And, this is why I voted for Mr. Trump." w/b: fancylad

this dude mislead a whole lot of people. Really. Not their fault they're dumb. Just the conclusion of American culture and education. People don't know their history. If they did, they'd have seen his dumb ass coming a mile off. Sticking the needle in while someone's family is being split up though? GTFO. Sucks all kinds of ass that this happened, sympathy is needed.

So I guess the woman's research on candidates began and ended with soundbites and headlines - never looking past the surface of things. Politicians really do count on, and appreciate that in their sheeple.

So ? If illegals were supposed to be allowed to live anywhere they want, what is the point of being a legal immigrant? You break the law, you'll end up suffering the consequences.

Should the process to immigrate legally in the US be eased? Probably. But should illegals get free-passes while so many legal immigrants struggle to obtain permanent residence? Nope. A few years ago while I was waiting for my green card, Obama granted some to illegals who had lived long enough in the country, were working, did not have criminal records and were parents of US citizens. I checked all the criteria to get a green card except for one: I was legal. So no free pass for me. Was it fair?

I had to go through 4 visas and 1 work permit before obtaining a green card. I had to fill up forms after forms, flying back to Europe to wait hours in a crowded embassy to be able to renew the visas, repeating the same things over and over, going back through background checks after background checks, drug tests after drug tests, spending thousands of dollars in attorney fees and medical exams. I did obtain my green card legally, doing one legal step after the other. Spending years knowing that if I lost my job, I had 15 days to sell my house and my car before leaving the countries with my American kids. That if I did any minor infraction, even a DUI, my visa could be revoked. But for the media, for Obama and the Democrats, and for most Americans, since I entered the US legally it was alright that I struggled. Illegals "were worth" more.

m3dm3d Obama fucked you over. That happened to a lot of people actually.
Did you keep your policy? Did you keep your doctor? Obama deported more people than Bush did, and the MSM tells us that's a good thing!
OH! But Trump trying to deport criminals is a crime against humanity!!! The horror!

There are so many things this guy could have done to stop this he was told twice to go back according to the article I read if he just went back when he was told it would have worked out in the end. If he was smart he would have gone back as soon as he decided to marry and then say look at me I married an American can I come live there now. Its his fault that he ignored the logical things to do and now is in trouble for breaking the law.

1) The dude had 20 years to become legal 2) He was owner of a restaurant and so had a great incentive to want to begin citizenship procedures 3) His wife should have known Trump's stance on illegals before voting for him

doiknowyou It can take over 20 years to naturalise as a US citizen. I know a guy who did high-end computing supporting academics, and it took him 18.

barry9a If you don't fail the background check / language test / culture test, the process is more or less automatic after 5 years of green card. You simply have to ask for it. Obtaining the green card is what usually takes decades.

barry9a If he was undergoing that process? They wouldn't have deported him, he'd have valid standing. afaik of course.

No sympathy for this woman, who apparently lacks any empathy. She voted for Trump knowing full well that he was looking to deport illegals at a record pace. She most likely thought to herself, "well, my husband isn't one of the "bad ones", so he's probably safe".

Oh well lady, too bad. It's too bad that idiots like you have no foresight and vote according to ideals that they themselves don't live by.

So guy was here illegally for many years, admitted it to officials and they did nothing?  See, this is a large part of the problem.  We don't need more laws, we just need to enforce the ones we have.  Why did they let him stay here illegally in the first place?  Why did they not send him back and make him come back the proper way?  That's all they are really doing now anyway.  He has family here and a job, so he should theoretically be able to apply and come right back.  It's his own fault for waiting so long to do things the proper way.  Serves him right.

waldo863 shit, just read the article and it proves my point.  The article says:
they said, ‘Well, your husband is being detained because of a deportation 16 and a half years ago.’
So they did have the paperwork to deport him 16 and a half years ago.  Then on every single one of his subsequent yearly visits they IGNORED THE DEPORTATION that was issued.

Enforce the laws we have and we would be in much much much much much better shape than we are.  Isn't that all that is really going on now anyway?  They are enforcing these deportations that should have been enforced when they were first issued.  How was thins man even able to pay taxes and get a business license?  Did they not check to see if he was a legal citizen first?  If they had simply checked, like they are supposed to, they would have seen, this man is an illegal alien, we can't accept his tax money, we can't give him a business license, he has no right to be here.  Instead, everyone, including ICE, IGNORED HIS DEPORTATION.

I have to say voting against your own self interest amazes me.  She split her own family up that's sad and ironic.  You get what you deserve.  Next time you say "The Person running for President didn't mean that" and then President does what he says, listen to them next time.

More fake news! Colour me shocked! Someone who knowingly breaks the law for 17 years gets in trouble? Wow o wow! Who'd have imagined that could ever possibly happen?

In other news: heroin and cocaine importers object to Trump enforcing border security. Bad Trump! Has he no respect for the small, independent drug smuggler businessman?? Obama pardoned hundreds of them, good Obama!

bil128 The fake news? That somehow her voting for Trump get her illegal husband in trouble. Or that Trump taking office somehow resulted in this "tragic family break-up". HE was already in trouble for 17 years, that is juuust a bit before Trump took office, yes?

But 'Blame Trump' is the only meme the MSM will push now, for the next 8 years. I'll stop pointing out their lies when they stop telling them, ok?

5cats - no, her voting for Trump isn't fake news, her husband ignoring the law isn't fake news, him being swept up by ICE isn't fake news, as a matter of fact there's no "fake" news anywhere in this article. try again...wait, don't try again, just let it go

5cats I'm not arguing that he should have been here in the first place.  But voting for Trump did result in the family being broken up.  I can promise you that he wouldn't be deported had Hillary been elected.  Should he have been deported earlier?  Absolutely.  Once again numbnuts like you and the GOP won't go after the reason they are here.  Someone was giving him a job for years before he bought this restaurant.  I doubt that person is in prison.

barry9a Why not do so legally? You saying that for the past 16+ years this guy couldn't get legal status?

He's the asshole for ignoring the law of the nation which his family lived in. He made his own bed, sowed his own downfall. But 'Blame Trump' is the MSM meme and by golly! No facts shall stand in the was of that important mission!

Since 1997? Why not get yourself legal in all that time? Without even researching I bet it was somehow more profitable to be here illegally. I would let him butt up to the front of the line to apply though.

Doesn't matter who you voted for, your husband has been here illegally for 20 years. He is one of the ones that there should be some sort of way to get credit for what he's done since he's paid taxes and S.S.. But the law should apply to all equally.

barry9a Immigration laws are "silly" now? Just OPEN the boarders to every single person with a bus ticket? that's your solution?

You're right in a way, the law WAS being unfairly enforced! About time they got around to arresting this asshole. Good job ICE! Toss him in jail and then deport his sorry ass.

barry9a Not nearly as fun as watching you dodge a simple question:

"Immigration laws are "silly" now? Just OPEN the boarders to every single person with a bus ticket? that's your solution?"

That's your solution? If an illegal person makes it over the border, just let him stay? Ignore the law, or just apply it differently based on race perhaps? Not that you will answer, but it sure seems like a simple, NON-rhetorical question to me...
