Breaking down someone else's jokes doesn't make you a comedian.... tell your own, not dryly explain someone else's.

A joke never works if you have to explain it

Gerry1of1 This was not an explanation of the joke, rather the theory behind why it makes us laugh and the intelligence it takes to utilize words, grammar and sentence structure in a manner to not only produce a laugh, but to setup a believable premise that allows the audience to anticipate and savor the punch line.

It is rare when someone can deliver laughter with such precise skill.

rumham I'm confused...this was a video of some guys interpretation of how Louie delivers his material, not Louie telling people how he makes his jokes.

Regardless, the guy does explain it well.

kalron27 Well Louis doesn't make me laugh so I can't think he has 'precise skill'. Missed his target with me totally.

Gerry1of1 That is fine, you can have your tastes, but I was referring to the fact that the joke was not explained, rather what it is about his delivery that makes it work.

Gerry1of1 True, but this routine of LCK needs no explanation; it's hilarious on its own. And for me, the dissection of it, while unnecessary, was really interesting.

rumham Why not both? It's not an either/or proposition.

Penn & Teller have been outstandingly successful because they both do magic and explain how they do it afterwards.

rumham I liken it more to a documentary on Beethoven. The music stands on its own, but for fans, it's interesting to get a better understanding of how it was composed.

Everyone has different tastes in comedians, no doubt. But I have a hard time understanding how someone can't laugh at some of LCK's routines. Have you seen this one, about his experience smoking pot?

This is also why his show works so well.  Louie is damn good writing and direction.  The last season was pretty dark and surreal.  I'd love to see Louie, but he pulls high prices nowadays.  Maybe he will do a small club tour...maybe...

I think it's wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly.
