Reefer Madness: Jeff Sessions Says Weed Is "Only Slightly Less Awful" Than Heroin

Submitted by: fancylad 1 month ago News & Politics

Watch out, everyone -- Jeff Sessions is coming for your weed. In a speech on violent crime in Richmond, Virginia today, Sessions beat the drum about how marijuana is "life-wrecking dependency" that is "only slightly less awful" than heroin.

If the Trump regime has one motto, it's "One step forward, two steps back."

"Legal Prescription Drugs is "life-wrecking dependency" that is "only slightly less awful" than heroin."

There, fixed it for you Mr Sessions...oh wait, you are deep in Drug Company pockets aren't you?

I have never seen the logic behind the war on drugs, governments could raise millions in tax by allowing safe and regulated access to narcotics and taxing it accordingly.

To say weed is almost as bad as heroin shows ignorance on the subject. Excessive use can of course lead to problems but in the majority of cases it causes far less issues than alcohol and tobacco. Surely banning tobacco would make far more sense if public health was an issue.

trump always talks about reducing federal government and giving more power to the states. i wonder if trump agrees with sessions stance on marijuana. and then explain to me how he can say what he says about where he wants the governments power to be, yet wants to literally defy the voters who have legalized it in their state. pretty damn hipocritical

Legal in California, but San Diego County Council is refusing to give any permits to dispensaries. The cities them selves are split, Some refuse licenses and the others just make it so damn difficult it's next to impossible to open a dispensary.

Even on a local level, elected officials do not represent their voters.... who also voted to legalize it

Some what of a defense here, still don't agree with him. Marijuana ain't what it used to be, it isn't the hippies in the 60's weed some of it is quite potent.

taxidriver They have also developed extremely low THC strains for medical purposes.  The weed itself is not necessarily more potent, but some of the extraction methods definitely can be too much, especially the edibles.  I personally prefer smoking so you can judge your intake, but if you eat too much your fucked!

kalron27 I have patients who depend on marijuana compounds to keep their appetite up during chemo and reduce seizures so they can hold down jobs and go to school. It is absolutely a useful medicine.

Problem is, since it is still a schedule 1, few reputable MD's will discuss it as an option and even fewer will endorse a prescription.

I have also seen kids in the ER who unknowingly ate edibles (shared a tray of brownies) and were really scared and messed up.

I am fine with a little regulation, but if I have to choose between full deregulation and the status quo, I prefer to have it available to help.

toetagmodel2 If my mom smoked or ingested while dealing with cancer, I think she would have felt better before the end.  Legalization is the best path to better Regulation IMHO.

kalron27 Really, all it would take is a federal reclassification as a schedule II. That takes 1 administrative order from the FDA. DEA could still get its jollies by arresting traffickers, and people could get better medical care.

toetagmodel2 Look at ICE now, I don't see that happening anytime soon unfortunately.  There will be too much money in keeping it at it's current schedule.

Pot is not legal in my state (Alabama) and I did not expect it to be any time soon, but this is still a bad sign, and this is one of the things that makes me unhappy about the Trump.

casaledana Yeah, Trump is not weed friendly for sure. I hate that we have had 24 years of Presidents that know better yet still very little progress made. The Fed needs to keep it's big fat snoot out of it (along with a whole lot of other things).

casaledana Good to hear, especially since this is a State's right to approve.  Over reaching Feds for $$$

casaledana Only Medical Marijuana is legal in Pa. but they illegalized every method ov it's use. In other words if you try using medical you still face excessively strict penalties of up to a year in prison (first offense) for possessing paraphernalia.

I live in Washington and I'm about done with pot smokers. Not with pot itself, I think it should have been legal years ago. I don't smoke it myself, but there are some topical creams that do wonders on my messed up foot.

But these damn kids coming in high as hell and stinking up my store...

I just want to grab them and be like, "Do you have any idea how long it took to get that stuff legalized? STOP FUCKING IT UP!"

profworm Do they smoke in your store, or do they just reek so bad the stink follows them? I agree, you have to know how to handle your high.

fancylad Nah, I'd never let someone smoke in the store. I don't even let people vape in there, which makes vaper's all butthurt, but no one want's a cloud of anything visible that was just inside you in their face. It's just impolite.

mrsnowmeiser Enjoy the legal stuff while it lasts? I like the convenience of going to a dispenser, buying high grade edibles and such, but I'm past the age where I have to hit up shady dealers.
