Jeff Sessions Got The SNL Cold Opening Treatment Last Night

Submitted by: fancylad 6 months ago in Entertainment

Forrest Gump meets Jeff Sessions by way of Kate McKinnon. Did it work or fall flat?

This was a really good inside joke. Not very many racists would have seen The Help.

I don't think I've ever seen a sketch on SNL that wasn't just... shit. It's all very amateur dramatics.

DrCribbens The original cast had some legendary skits, but a lot of misses too, that's the risk you take going "edgy" eh?

Now? They are "100% safe-zone" and completely PC. :-/ Very rarely does it even evoke a chuckle... so I agree.

5cats Even the legendary ones. Needs more cowbell? Didn't raise a smile with me.

DrCribbens I loved that one because I'm a huuuge fan of Blue Oyster Cult eh? Lolz!
By original cast I meant the first run, with Belushi and Radner leading the show. Good times!

DrCribbens Go back further.  Chase, Akroyd, Belushi, Curtin, Radner...
"Jane.  You ignorant slut..."
Made me laugh.

irk Omg that was so... funny! It cracked me up every time. Over the top and stupid... but soooo funny! (Jane you ignorant slut I mean) NO ONE could possibly get away with that these days. Not even Dave Chappelle... well maybe him.

DrCribbens Thank goodness we all have different opinions. Some love Beethoven. Some prefer Mozart. Some like SNL. Some don't but it's odd that the people who don't still seem to watch it seem to watch enough to know they hate it.

oobaka I watched plenty of them over the years. Every time I tune in to a new one? I'm bitterly disappointed...
But the occasional clip or special project can be very funny indeed.
I think it's terrific that different people like different things. I have no expectation that others will agree with me. Especially on IAB...

5cats I admit I haven't seen much of it. Just the occasional sketch on IAB or YouTube. But whichever one I watch it just seems amateurish. You can see their eyes moving as they read the cue cards. I don't know. I've watched the odd opening monologue as well and they just make me cringe.

Maybe it's a cultural thing. Maybe it just doesn't appeal to the British sense of humour. Any other Brits on here with an opinion?

From the SNL perspective, this administration is the gift that keeps on giving. I haven't seen such good comedy coming out of that show in years.
