Amy Schumer Is Blaming Everyone But Herself For Her Latest Failure

Submitted by: fancylad 1 week ago Entertainment

Amy Schumer took to Instagram to defend her latest poor showing -- her Netflix comedy special, "The Leather Special" that debuted this past Tuesday. You can see read the post here, or read it below...

Yikes, what a desperate plea for love and acceptance. I experienced a full-on douche chill the entire time I was reading it.

What she never addresses is that maybe, just maybe, "The Leather Special" isn't funny. It's just the same note she's been repeating for years: My pussy smells, I have body issues, sucking dick is weird, it's tough being recognized.

Lorraine Ali (one of my top 10 favorite reviewers) of the Los Angeles Times gives the special a lukewarm review, stating what I mentioned which is, "the material feels like it could have come from a set three years ago."

And even if Reddit trolls (are there any other kind?) down-voted the special, an hour-long comedy set still has an obligation to be funny, original, and if possible, have something to say. Here's the Sidesplitter article Schumer references.

I saw people ripping on this (not that I like her anyway, was was morbidly interested) so I checked this thing out on Netflix. What a pile of shit. I don't find women talking about how her vagina smells and is big and flappy very funny, it was gross. I keep fast forwarding, wondering how long she could sustain the subject matter, turns out, quite a while. Unfunny, gross, crass, 1/10.

I love that she's acting like she has an important message in her comedy. Like she's a pioneer.

She works blue. Working blue is easy. Lots of people do it, and even some great comedians do it... But don't go acting like it's ground breaking stuff.

profworm I don't really like that brand of comedy, but I have always appreciated storytelling, pacing, delivery, etc. - all the skills that go into making jokes work.  Even aside from not enjoying her brand of comedy, I just don't think she is particularly strong on her delivery.  (This is especially true when comparing her side by side to the people who originally presented the material.)  I'm not a huge Chappelle fan, but he knows how to deliver a line.

Fancy does have a bee in his bonnet when it comes to Schumer. I think she's alright, a few of her jokes and her delivery make me chuckle.

She wasn't funny when Obama was president, she isn't funny now. she is, however, vulgar, crude, and something of a whiner.

Uh, that looks a little bit like satire aimed at a certain twitter happy politician to me. Just saying.

I like big butts and I can not lie
 You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed

Besides with 2 Dave Chappelle specials coming to Netflix next week, no one will even care that she has one too.

I haven't heard more than 10 or minutes of her comedy at any one time.  The bits and pieces I've heard on Pandora were funny the first time I heard them.  To be honest, that's true of pretty much much every comedian for me.  I can honestly say that with the exception of watching Eddie Murphy's Raw back in the 80s, I've never seen an entire stand-up set of any comedian's work.  And as much as I loved Eddie Murphy back then, I got pretty bored after a while.

All that is to say I don't get why people hate her so much.  She's a comedian.

from what I've seen, most people have a problem with her because she takes old comedians jokes, tweaks them ever so slightly, and tells them while claiming they're her original joke

boredusernames01 Wow. I mean, the TV show bits aren't necessarily her, because shows have a lot of writers and it could really be any one of them, but the stand-up stuff... there's no excuse.

fuad119 For Clean Comedy, Regan takes the cake! (personally Clean comedy is pretty tough)  But for all out comedian's comedian...Attell is a fucking Laugh God.  He reaches into the absurd that The Aristocrats was famous for.

kalron27 Gaffigan works clean as well.  I'm a fan of Izzard as well, who aside from a little language now and then works pretty clean.

faustsshadow I saw Izzard 3 years ago, fucking amazing show.  I actually get to see Gaffigan next month.  As you can tell I love comedy.  Attell however was the best show I have ever scene, I think it helped that it was an intimate club and we were front and center.  I never heard any of the material before, he just flowed so well and kept the crowd laughing.  He shook my wife's hand at the end and gave me the pointy finger gun thing and a wink.

skeeter01 I don't have to get why people hate her.  Different people have different tastes.  it's fine for people to hate her.  What I don't get is this attitude that if they hate something, everyone else should too.  I mean sure, she's not the funniest comedian out there, still unsure on a lot of the parallel thinking or theft stuff.  She's definitely not ugly though.  I don't really like her, not gonna go out of my way to see her work, but the fact that it exists does not bother me either.  If she likes doing what she does and people like watching it, what does it matter to anyone else?

waldo863 I agree, I've noticed that a few other comedians get this kind of rap, some people hate the material and tell other people to hate it too. To be totally honest, I didn't find John Belushi all that funny, but I don't care if someone else does. To each their own.
