A Rabbi, A Priest, And An Atheist Walk Smoke Weed Together...

You're gonna tell me weed can't make the world a better place? Thanks, Jeff Sessions -- thanks for going after one of the few things that's able to get everyone on a level plane and see eye-to-eye on differing points of view.

This video was charming and fun to watch. I have virtually no experience with weed personally, but it's clear to me that it strips away a lot of superficial, top-of-mind worries and inhibitions, and allows one to access feelings and connect with others more easily. These three adults were able to forge connections in the wonderful way that children typically do. It really seems that sharing marijuana like this could help a lot of adults connect with others and form new friendships rather than face an increasingly isolated existence.

I've just returned from a week of traveling throughout Jamaica, and spent two days in the company of an American ex-pat and Stanford grad who now has dual U.S. and Jamaican citizenships. She's lived on the island for 25 years and knows weed and its effects better than anyone I've ever met. One of her observations is that stoned drivers in Jamaica typically don't cause accidents but are annoying to be stuck behind because they are invariably driving 20 kph below the speed limit. She said it's the speeding cokeheads and amphetamine addicts, not the pot smokers, who cause most of the accidents. Regarding the study MonkWarrior references, it points out that one reason pot is often detected in drivers who have caused car accidents may be that traces of marijuana remain in the urine and blood for days, even weeks, after ingesting. In other words, it's easier to detect traces of pot in a driver's system because its window for detection dwarfs that of the other drugs.

In terms of weed's detrimental effects, my Jamaican expert had no doubt that the drug tends to be demotivating. From her long experience, people who are starting their days by smoking weed, and then smoking it several times throughout the day, don't accomplish much.

My own impression of the drug at this point: There's nothing wrong with it if consumed once in awhile, preferably in the evenings after you've accomplished the day's goals. If it can be consumed socially, as in this video, it may well help you create bonds of friendship, which are a boon to one's well-being.

Your Jamaican expert is wise in her years.  This, in my older age, is how I ingest marijuana.  Usually in the evening after work, although sometimes first thing in the morning if my belly aches, just a puff to settle the stomach.  If I am meeting friends or entertaining friends (surprisingly all of them partake throughout my life) we will be more generous to ourselves and enjoy the evening.

I can say, as someone who quit for many years, I am a happier, mentally and physically healthier human being because of it.  The levels of stress and social awkwardness as well as some reclusive tendencies from my youth have all but dissipated when I have a daily intake of THC.  Better than any legal drug I was given in my teens...Ritalin, Adderall in my 20s...just made me confused and aggressive and focused on the wrong things in life.  Weed keeps me straight and normal.

kalron27 Interesting observations; thanks. I can't see the logic in marijuana being illegal when regular-strength red wine is legal. The dangers and benefits of the two seem to be roughly on par. Fortunately, things seem to be changing, albeit slowly.

kalron27 because you want to justify your myth that weed doesn't kill, but you can't due to the facts, and it irks you.  You need to accept the facts and admit weed attributable deaths can, has, and will continue happen.

monkwarrior Below I commented that I said you were a Jeff Sessions wanna be out of loving jest...I take that back, I did not read this comment first...

You need to accept the fact that anything can cause death, let me choose how I meet my end and we can agree to disagree.

kalron27 so you want to admit weed is responsible for deaths, or is it too precious for you to do that?

melcervini a nice quote:
“Saying marijuana…has never killed anyone is like saying tobacco has never killed anyone. Nobody dies from a tobacco overdose. You can’t smoke yourself to death. And yet nobody would dispute that tobacco causes death. … You die from lung cancer–you don’t die from smoking. You die from what smoking did to your lungs, which is a direct effect from smoking. And so in that same way marijuana does kill people in the form of mental illnesses and suicide, in the form of car crashes. … You can’t say marijuana doesn’t kill.”

monkwarrior nice quote but that is an opinion not research.  I can provide you with link after link of research that proves otherwise...can you show something factual to the contrary?  We get it, you don't like weed, you don't need to be Debbie Downer to those who do and do not abuse it.

You can eat marijuana, no smoking, those with mental illness who are not taking the proper medication will have ill effects like suicide, that is not pots fault, it's misdiagnosis or lack of medical care that is the fault not pot.  Actually, the car accident rate while ingesting pot statistically is far far FAR lower than drinking and driving and even far far lower than with sleep deprivation, age, texting/distraction.

“Marijuana is the illicit drug most frequently found in the blood of drivers who have been involved in accidents, including fatal ones,”
This is just one, and it cites research that marijuana is increasingly detected in fatal vehicle accidents. But i suspect you won't care about it because it seems weed is 'harmless to everyone' in your opinion.  The facts however, what a lot of pro-pot people seem to ignore, tell a different story.

kalron27 I'll stick with the facts.  Perhaps one day you can sit in on a marijuana anonymous meeting (they even have online ones in chat), and hear the real damage it does to people's lives.

monkwarrior Not interested because I have never been damaged by Marijuana...nor have any of my friends who are "sober" due to other addictions.  None of them blamed pot for their addictive personality and most of them would blame LEGAL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS as their downfall.

Hell, some of them just ingest pot now and are happy.  No booze, no H, no drugs prescribed by a doctor...but none of them look down upon me for my choices in life.  You should learn the same.

kalron27 i'm sorry bro, it's you who is looking down on me here, so you should learn what you're trying to preach.  Also being apathetic towards those who weed can mess up, isn't really in the spirit of what you were trying to vouch this video as. If it helps you, fine, but understand it's a drug, and most all humans don't need drugs, and quite a few have averse reactions to them.  Some people's minds get ruined, other's their lives.  All i'm saying is that that's the grim reality pro-pot people are missing: it's not for everyone, it's not for most. My take on it is that if you can get through life without doing drugs, that's your best route.

melcervini People have killed themselves and others while high on weed, it's a known fact.  Perhaps you meant overdosing, as a lot of potheads like to tout, but that's still ignoring the fact that there are many marijuana-related fatalities where the drug use directly contributed to the death of themselves or others.

monkwarrior I'll refer to rumham comment below about gloom and doom.  Happy and peaceful is still happy and peaceful.  you shouldn't judge others and their life styles, this video is proof of that.

kalron27 judging?  I'm sorry, i've seen people's lives get messed up on drugs, especially weed.  I think it's ridiculous that pro-pot people think that everyone will be happy and peaceful when everyone is smoking weed.  Humans aren't good when they continually abuse a drug, especially weed.

monkwarrior Dude, you are judging us by implying we are dregs on society...but there are many many many humans to do just fine with it.  You want to know the most abused drug on the planet...aspirin. So we should ban that too?  Marijuana is a natural substance that can be used for a variety of both medical and recreational activities that have no ill consequences on the majority of humans.  Again, I can provide link and link of research that agrees with me...show me proof otherwise that is not?

kalron27 I'm sorry, but if you think I'm implying that, that's your issue, because anyone can read what was said to see it's not.  The point is: Marijuana can, has, and will destroy minds and lives.  If you don't like that people's lives got messed up because of it, that's fine, but don't sit there thinking i'm judging you or anyone for talking of the facts.

kalron27 and moments of joy are what life is.. yes some is horrible and mysterious but to disregard those moments that are pure, and powerful, and goofy and joyous is to deny life. to focus on nothing but the horror of consciousness is to piss on the universe.  this video is great and i wish we as people could have these random moments of togetherness without it having to be a video. we are all humans we are separated by our own insecurities. :(
