There was a time when if there was video proof of something, that's we needed to believe. After all, photos can be 'Shopped within in minute. But video? Almost impossible to screw with, right? Wrong.
A German research team has created software that allows them to control the face of anyone in any video on YouTube. It looks a little like the face swap feature on Snapchat and some additional Hollywood CGI magic.
The intended purpose of overdubbing movies is to make translations better for people in other markets and communications with people using translators. Have you ever seen a Star Wars movie dubbed in another lauguage? It's laughable. Knowing that, this idea could be really cool tech tool. I can see this being used to enhance CGI-based movies using real actors to get better effects.
Unfortunately, they used politicians as the example in this video which will speak to the cynic in all of us. How soon before this tool is used to alter politicians' speeches.
