Hoho. Ben Carson giving an expert opinion. Popcorn, check. Tin foil hat, check. Decreasing critical thinking skill and continuing cross-eyed

This is one of those topics were the law, religion and common sense clash. The law is written to give married couples certain rights in regards to there spouse. Then you have religions saying that marriage is only a man and a women so same sex can't be "married". So you would have to rewrite every law/rule regarding marriage to include whatever term was picked for same sex marriages to give them the rights. Of course that was never going to happen.

I've always wondered this too. Why demand a 'Church Wedding' if that church doesn't believe in doing it? Answer: political agenda.
There's no legal marriage unless the government paperwork is filled out, correct? Or the lawyers sue for it afterwards. So why not get the Government out of the 'marriage business' altogether? Just issue the documents to anyone who wants them, and leave Religion out of it entirely!

The interviewer does a piss=poor job, what a tool.

I could ask my brother-in-law if you want an answer straight from the source, but the two main reasons I know of are:

1)  Tax reasons.  When you can file Married - filing jointly, you get more back, or have to pay less.  We are basically taxing them more, just because they are gay.  Then you have stuff like the so-called "Death Tax."  A gay/lesbian can not just leave everything to their significant other in their will the same way a straight person could.  If I leave all my stuff to my wife, she pays no taxes.  If her brother leaves everything to his significant other, he has to pay taxes on it.  Again, taxing them just because they are gay.

2)  I don't think you can adopt a child if you are not a married couple.  It is at least a lot more difficult.

3) I remember reading about a gay man not being allowed to visit his boyfriend who was dying in a hospital because he wasn't a member of the family. The rest of the family was against the homosexuality. If they were married, the hospital and family wouldn't be able to block him.

oobaka The same thing happens with hetero- boy or girlfriends, with different races or politics too. It is not exclusive to gays.

But yeah, if they were married it would be a different story. This is why gay marriage is being legalized, although not the only reason of course!

waldo863 Right, and those issues and a lot more just depend on the government papers, government laws. Nothing to do with religion or Churches.
Just sayin, there's more to this 'movement' than equality.
