Did Trump Do His Research Before He Blocked Entry Of Syrian Refugees Yesterday?

Submitted by: normalfreak2 4 months ago in News & Politics

Early yesterday, Trump signed an executive order that effectively suspends the entry of Syrian refugees into the United States indefinitely. As he signed the order, President Trump said that this was "to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the United States."

But you have to ask yourself, what will this order really accomplish? So far, there's no evidence of any terrorists among the Syrian refugees settling in the United States.

If you look at the numbers, every lethal act of jihadist terrorism in the States since 9/11 have been carried out by American citizens or legal residents, and none of them have been the work of Syrian refugees.

Not surprising since the US has only brought in approximately 15,000 Syrian refugees making up 0.2 percent of the refugees the county has taken in, and of those 15,000, most were women and children.

This is all about Trump keeping up his support, he played up to the idiots who blame anything else but themselves for the problems in society and they will be whooping at this news. Foreigners make good targets for idiot thinkers as they can be blamed for crime, terrorism, taking jobs and just about anything else.

Curious that Saudi Arabia isn't on the list, since almost all of the 9/11 attackers were from there.  I mean, if he's truly trying to stop terrorists from entering the country, wouldn't they be first on the list?

spanz How did you come to that conclusion based on this submission?  I mean if you read this, multiple studies and an analysis's of ACTUAL terrorist events in the United States show it's a vast majority of AMERICANS who commit these acts.    It has nothing to do with women being used as terrorists.  The submission was showing how irrational thought is pushing a stupid agenda to stop accepting refugees.

This was how the Trump celebrated National Holocaust Day, the day when the US remembers its shame for turning away Jews during WWII who  were then exterminated by the Germans. He also honored them (somewhat) in a speech where he NEVER mentioned Jews or Antisemitism. I guess he did not want to upset Bannon and his other Alt-Right Supporters.

Trump's research consists of what he watches on Fox and random racist tweets.

oobaka This is one of the most disturbing things about the Trump presidency. From what I've read, virtually all of the information he gets comes from anecdotes or watching Fox News. Trump doesn't read: not books, not reports, not even magazine articles. I'd be surprised to learn that he reads anything longer than half-page, 125-word summaries.

casaledana From three sources, actually.

First, from Tony Schwartz, the ghost writer of Trump's The Art of the Deal. In a New Yorker article this past summer, Schwartz stated that during the 18 months he worked with Trump, he never once saw a book on Trump's desk, in his office, or in his apartment. He described the frustration of working with a man who would get fidgety, irritable, and bored quickly during meetings of any duration, to the point that it sounds as if Trump may have an attention deficit disorder. Schwartz doubts that Trump has ever read a book cover-to-cover.

Second, from my own observations of Trump. I have never once seen Trump discuss an issue with a level of depth that would suggest he's read anything more than a cursory summary. This is true even of issues central to his campaign and presidency, such as immigration and climate change. His vocabulary is the limited lexicon of a non-reader: great, tremendous, failing, fake, and sad seem to do ninety percent of the work.

Third, from Trump himself. In an interview this past summer with The Washington Post, Trump stated that he's never read a biography of an American president (though he wistfully states that he'd like to "some day"). Similar to Schwartz's observation, the Post writers state that there are no shelves of books to be seen in Trump's office. In a May 2016 interview, Megyn Kelly asked Trump to name the last book he read. His response: "Dunno... it's so long because-- Now, I read passages, I read areas, I'll read chapters... I just--I don't have the time." (In the same interview, Trump does state that his favorite book is All Quiet On the Western Front, first published in 1929. To hazard a guess, I'd say Trump probably read it during his high school years when it was--again, I'm guessing here--required reading at the New York Military Academy.)

In conclusion, there's abundant evidence that Trump reads nothing longer than memos or summaries. A more difficult question is, Does it matter? As the Post article points out, there's little correlation between how much reading an occupant of the Oval Office does and his success. That said, I'd rather have a president who's looking at the world through a well-read lens than making his decisions on gut feelings and hearsay.

squrlz4ever Also: Could someone please tell me how to insert a link with a descriptive label (i.e., use words rather than the actual URL)? I've seen some of you doing it, but, rodent that I am, haven't been able to figure out the syntax. Thanks.

slicerdicer Well he does have several successful businesses and more money than you or I will likely ever have. I think that does imply a certain level of competence. He's a clown and a really bad choice for president in my opinion but credit where credit is due.

On topic, the math and the VISIBLE and OBSERVABLE facts do not back up the idea that we are safer or better off without taking in refugees.

There's no basis in any sort of evident spectrum that supports that line of thinking.

normalfreak2 Really? Come to Sweden or Germany and say that straight to my face again. Maybe you should start looking at evidence, women here are even too afraid to go outside nowadays. It's hurting all areas and is very expensive because they don't work. The US has never taken real refugees in modern times.

https://mellanosternidag.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/sexualbrott.png?w=640&h=437 here's the result of people like you in Sweden wanting to feed their egos by taking refugees. This stat shows the percentage of people reporting having been victims of sexual crimes during the year. Purple is women. You will just love when they release the numbers for 2016. See how nicely it increase with refugee intake.

Well, you're not a woman, so maybe you just don't give a fuck (also forgetting that refugees from these countries are much more likely to assault you, murder you or rob you).

p.s. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-arab-leaders-234344 reporting both sides is hard, eh? Ignorant piece of shits.

normalfreak2 Because I was writing about terrorism, am I right? Well, if you consider sexual crimes terrorism.

The facts show that refugees that come from outside Europe commit much more crimes per capita. A Somali is 26 times more likely to rape or murder someone in Sweden (than a swede).

Fojos What does this have to do with the United States and refugees?  I can't speak to the refugee process in Europe.  Europe has their own problems.  We have different vetting standards than Sweden so I'm not sure what you are driving at here.

normalfreak2 Doesn't change the view these "refugees" bring. But hey, if you're happy bringing a population where more than half thing honor killings are justified and where more than half want sharia-law.
