Americans Have An Annual 1-In-3.6 Billion Chance Of Being Killed By A Foreigner In The States

Submitted by: normalfreak2 9 months ago in Lifestyle

What are the chances of an American being killed by a terrorists on American soil? Good question, if you break it down to the numbers, you're talking the typical American has a 1-in-3,600,000,000 (that's billion) chance of being killed by a non-American, and that's factoring in the 9/11 deaths.

I don't know how you feel about those odds, but here are a few things to compare that to for scale...

1 in 13,983,816: Odds of winning a state lottery.
1 in 960,000: Odds of being hit by lightening.
1 in 619: Odds of catching a foul ball at a Major League baseball game.
1 in 10,000: Odds of finding a four-leaf clover.
1 in 606:
Lifetime odds of dying in a car accident.
3.6 per 1,000: Number of divorced Americans per individual.

"Killed by a foreigner" and "killed by a terrorist" and not identical terms. I find it hard to believe that with the 12-14k homicides every year in the US, that effectively none of them were done by a foreign national.

barry9a Let me clarify, The study didn't encompass crimes by illegals that were non terrorist vs crimes by illegals that were terrorist.   There would have to be another study to determine crime by illegals.  In regards to terrorism/murder it's clear.  The Refugee visas aren't the place terrorist go to get into the United States, it's tourists or Lawful Permanent residents/students.

barry9a Just because you find it "hard to believe" doesn't mean the data is invalid or wrong.  When presented with actual evidence shouldn't that change your opinion until other evidence that's contradictory is presented?  Wouldn't that be the logical conclusion/outcome?

normalfreak2 Fucking idiot! YOUR OWN LINK says so! That there's roughly 100 TOURIST VISA people committing murder, never mind OTHER kinds of foreigners!
Your.Own.Link. and you don't even know what it says. Fucking unbelievable.

5cats Yes, those are VALID but they are still an extremely small portion of "illegals".  THAT'S THE POINT.  You are so incredibly dense.

normalfreak2 So you are wrong, know you are wrong, but refuse to admit this? And try (in desperation) to change the subject eh?
Typical!

Yes but what are the odds of getting robbed or raped or some other illegal act from the 1.8 million criminals that have been let loss because we will not deport them. Tell some one living in the ghetto that's afraid to leave there house because M13 gang members control there neighborhood. Not every one is killed by aliens. And once again should we wait for a 9/11 incident before we take steps to stop it. You act like foreign terrorists have never attacked this country. And you seam to forget this is a temporary  stay until the New President can see that the appropriate departments are  carrying out there jobs as dictated by law. Not like its been carried out by past administrations. Notice I said past administrations. This country (as all other countries) have a legal right and responsibility to keep people out of the country that are deemed undesirable. This is not the first time steps like this have been taken. (the restriction or stopping of people from a particular region or country.) Get over it, if it go's on to long the rest of the U.S will start to question it.

rumham  Not at all I have my gun, despite my living out side the city limits (that has 3 times the national average of crime for a city with only 23,000 people and one of the highest murder rates per 100.000 people in the state) but I digress, I don't live in Chicago where the murder rate is 10, or 15 in a single week end. The truth is I don't personally think that I will get killed by a terrorist (as the people in the towers didn't) but I do think some one else can, so I'm really trying to protect the innocent,  and don't we all want to protect the innocent.

casaledana Curious,  Do you apply this same logic to your fellow citizens?  You are afterall 300 times more likely to be shot by one of them.  Also perhaps you should start spending money like you won the lottery?  Afterall You have a far greater chance of winning that then you do being killed/robbed by an illegal.   Can you see where this line of thinking is taking you?  You aren't actually safer without them here,  You are neither more safe or less safe with them here.

So 1 in 3.6 billion annually is 1 in 6850 every minute . so you have better odds of dying from a terrorist attack then finding a four leaf clover. Crap I have 2 four leaf clovers. I am freaking out over here

Not the odds of 'finding one' those, eh? These are the odds one will BE a 4-leaf variety. You can easily scan several thousand in an hour or less. Who wrote this ridiculous headline and misleading description? The odds of finding are entirely different from the odds of them existing...

So 1 in 3.6 billion? Is that per hour? Per year? Per lifetime?

Since a few hundred are killed every year by various 'foreigners' in America? This is obviously bullshit. Even if it was 100 per year? That's 3.6 million to 1, not 3.6 THOUSAND million to 1.
Oh my! Even the LINK ITSELF says:
By contrast, the chance of being murdered by a tourist on a B visa, the most common tourist visa, is 1 in 3.9 million per year.
Sigh!

5cats So what we're going to start tightening up on tourist visas now?  Gee what a great idea for our economy </sarcasm>.  How do you propose we find them without some massive NSA-style dragnet?

Cajun247 Cajun? I did not post this. I was pointing out how unspeakably stupid NF2 is, again, and how badly the post itself is written, psooibly by both NF2 and FancyLad. Why insult me? Why blame me for it? For pointing out the truth?

So don't piss on me brah, try to find out who actually deserves it before you insult them, ok?

normalfreak2 You answered nothing. MY COMMENT QUOTES YOUR LINK and you ignore this and tell me to read the link... the one I just quoted.. so obviously I have read it, troll. Another fail, another change of subject. More lies and insults in place of actual discussion, just fuck off already.

5cats What did you find false about the study then?  Where is it faulty?  Or do you simply not believe it because facts don't matter?

normalfreak2 Change the subject much? I said YOUR POST and headline are false and misleading. The very link YOU provided proves it.

This report is wrong too, but that's beside the point I am making here. You know, that point you flat-out refuse to talk about.

It only 'applies' if you don't count foreign-born terrorists or immigrant terrorists, which is a narrow (although technically proper) use of the word.
MOST people think someone born in Pakistan, who trained as a terrorist there, then came to the USA with the sole intention of terrorist martyrdom counts as a "foreigner" ok? If the proper term was used, "foreign born" then a whole hell of a lot more people were killed by them. So it is deceptive, by design, but that's no excuse for your piss-poor headline and description.

5cats Wait, what's the difference between immigrant and foreign born?  Aren't those the same thing?

This study among many others shows just how insanely stupid policies of "stopping illegals from coming into the country are".  You should be far more concerned with being shot by your fellow American, having a heart attack, being electrocuted, slipping in a bathtub.  Your fear of the immigrant is unfounded and illogical.

I was just having a similar conversation with someone here at work last week.  She was talking about how dangerous things are and how just going to the store you risk getting murdered.  I then showed her the numbers of crimes committed in our city last year and she was very quick to point out how big of a number it was.  I then divided that number by the population of our city and showed her how low the chances are of any one of those crimes happening to you actually are.  She was shocked.

But I'm FAR more afraid of being killed by a terrorist. So, obviously, we should spend as much federal funding as possible to make me feel better, right?

I'll vote for you if you make me feel better about myself...
