Trump Just Appointed Ajit Paim, The Net Neutrality Foe, As The Chairman Of The FCC

In case you haven't heard, Trump just appointed Ajit Paim as the Chairman of the FCC.

Net Neutrality is very important to the continued access of information. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is bad for all of us in America.

I know I'm not the only one who has only a single internet provider choice (Comcast) and they are sticking it to me as it is, but if we lose our protections, the cost will become unaffordable again, just like in the late '80s into the early '90s when having cable was only available to those with a lot of spare income.

However what makes it worse with losing internet is that it will disconnect you from the world and our way of life right now, as much as it pains me to say it.

All of this on top of the hidden costs, Netflix or any other service will be screwed by internet providers, pushing the cost onto us. Comcast and other providers will also have the power to limit what you can access, much like they way China treats it's citizens.

This isn't some conspiracy theory, they are ready to deploy this architecture. Kiss your streaming TV shows and torrents goodbye. Music on YouTube... gone. If you don't pay Comcast's ransom fees, your site is blocked. Say something negative about it... you'll be deleted from The Interwebs.

Call me crazy, but if we lose Net Neutrality, we are all fucked.

you're gathering in numbers here and there, each for a cause, but if you want to break out of the 1984 secenario you need to get tough:  all together in union with 4 specific words.

I said this way back when FOPA was a thing. We want simple restrictions so make those an act/law. Don't treat the internet as a utility and give control of it to the government (FCC) cause governments change and here we are.

skypirate If it is regulated like a utility, AND YOUR UTILITY REGULATOR IS INDEPENDENT, then you get net neutrality.  Sadly, the FCC has never been independent from the industry groups.

skypirate Not treating them like a utility is backwards thinking, there should have been a law in place already but lobbyist were preventing that.

normalfreak2 and guess who rules utilities? The FCC. Welcome to your nightmare. I was all in favor of a law/act that basically said 'no fast lanes'. But the government at that point said that wasnt good enough we need the government to over see the whole thing. Now what?

skypirate I could agree with that.  You bring up a good point.  But with the current set up they are basically monopolies at the moment.  So yea.

Don't worry looks like Net Neutrality is gone.  Let the Oligarchy take full control of our Republic.  Now that is sad.  We have an Inside Trader as the Department of Health and Human services, we have Betsy Devos another Billionaire as Head of Education, we went from a Nuclear Physicists at the Department of Energy to Rick Perry.  The Department of Labor secretary is someone who thinks the minimum wage is too high already and workers shouldn't be paid overtime.  WOW totally awesome for the Middle class and working poor.  These credentials are amazing.  How does anyone that is Poor or in the middle class look at these choices and go "Yea Trump is looking out for me"?  Honest to goodness, please tell me how you rationalize this?
