You Should Spend The 80 Minutes Watching This Cult Classic From 1975

Submitted by: Gerry1of1 6 months ago in Entertainment

This is a fun one, it's over before it begins, and it's a good look at where we thought we were headed in 1975.

"Death Race 2000" is a 1975 cult action film with political satire which takes place in a dystopian America in the year 2000. Is this what we thought 2000 was going to be like in 1975? Anyway, in 1975, we thought that in the year 2000, we'd be watching something called theTranscontinental Road Race, a murderous form of American entertainment.

It was directed by Paul Bartel who went on to direct one more cult classic ("Eating Raoul"), the late David Carradine, and an early appearence by Sylvester Stallone, one year before "Rocky" broke.

BEST B-MOVIE EVER!!! I actually saw Death Race 2000 at a drive in movie in the 70's. (Yes, it was a drive in way back in the woods, so they would show R movies.) It double-featured with "Werewolves on Wheels".

Astute observers will note that Mr. Frankenstein's doctor was played by none other than Gerry1of1 (entrance at 3:20 mark).

What I was writing before I accidentally pressed submit was that the Pendragon remake of War Of The Worlds was actually fairly good although it suffered heavily from lack of budget and sub par special effects on the Tripods. At least it followed the book unlike the Pal Classic and Spealburg atrocity.

I just watched this again (several times) 2 days ago. I love this movie and like the Death Race prequels although not a big fan of DR3. Of the newer movies I like Death Race 2, The Origine of Frankenstein. Most often the remakes of the classics are horrible, War Of the Worlds (, Rollerball, Andromeda Strain remakes sucked balls. The Thing was one of the very few remakes that were better. 5's failed to mention these DR type classics: The Cars That Ate Paris and Faster Kitty Kill, Kill.

It is pure genius! Other similar (sort of!) films are: Two Lane Blacktop 1971 Which is getting a remake for next year. And another classic: Rollerball 1975 very good indeed! Apparently the remake was horrible. The Omega Man, Silent Running, Soylent Green, Andromeda Strain, Logans Run...

Oh, the original Rollerball was incredible. I remember watching it with a WTF expression half the time. A true dystopian classic.
