This Bodybuilder Has A Thing Or Two To Learn About Losing Gracefully

Submitted by: fancylad 8 months ago in Sports

This is Giannis Magos -- the Greek bodybuilder who, this past weekend, participated in a bodybuilding competition at the 22nd annual Greek National Cup. He won his weight class, but when he found out he came in second overall... well, you can see what happened. Roid rage? I'd bet the farm on it.

Yeah, I think roid rage seems probable. Fun fact: Bodybuilders who abuse steroids often wind up with testicles the size of small marbles (the body detects the overabundance of testosterone in the blood and shuts down the testes). To compensate for this, retailers targeting the bodybuilder market sell fake rubber balls that are stuffed into the briefs to hide the atrophy that's occurred. What was once a sensible, healthy sport has become a demented exercise in ludicrous physiques, spray tan that makes participants look like roasted turkeys, and drug abuse. Ugggh.

Also, they run the risk of liver damage, and the potential to grow an impressive set of breasts. Or, in the case of women, their breasts can atrophy, as well as them growing a pretty impressive beard.

the "breasts" are called gynecomastia.  it is from hormones being out of balance after steroid use.  When you take testosterone, your body doesnt produce it, which is why the testes will atrophy.  After you stop taking it (go off cycle) you body still doesnt produce it at first, which is why it is important to have your gear in check.  I your dont have your off cycle stuff in place, you can get gyno.  You can also get it idiopathically or if your testosterone levels are too low.  You can also get severely depressed and suicidal, feel like crap and have little to no sex drive and just be all around lazy from coming off cycle.  not to mention lose any gains that you acquired.  That said, roid rage is pretty much a myth.  If you were a jack hole before the gear, you will just be more of one after.  I know guys who have been on cycle for years on end with no sides.  I also know guys who have never been on cycle that will fight at the drop of a hat.  I havent seen any roid rage in reality.  I go o shows, train and a lot of my friends are body builders natural and not natural.

Liver damage is from long periods of oral steroid use.  I know no one who uses them for long periods of time.  Any medication or pill is bad fro your liver long term.  It is because it is metabolized through your liver.

I wasn't aware of those other side-effects. Thanks. I'm not interested enough in the sport to research it, but I wonder if anyone's considered a special category or bodybuilding, with its own standards, competitions, and awards, where things are done in a strictly healthy fashion? Perhaps I'm being naive: Wherever there's competition, some cheaters are going to find a way to try to sneak around a system. Hmmm.

all natural shows are a thing, unfortunately...not everyone is natural.  if they do blood tests, you can fool them.  If they do lie detector, some people can lie through them.  The real test would be muscle biopsy, but that isnt going to happen.  You can tell when you get to a natural show.  if the guy looks too big to be natural, he probably is.
