Stein and Johnson haven't had NEARLY the media scrutiny that Trump and Clinton have had. Any time I see them being pushed even SLIGHTLY past their stump speech they fall apart. Why the fuck can't we get a competent 3rd party candidate?

No, the correct question is why won't the media give third party candidates the coverage that they give the two major party candidates? Simple, because they understand that the system is rigged. I would almost guarantee that even if a third party candidate did get the majority of the popular vote, the electoral college would not put them in office. The media knows this, so they don't bother.

Well the Electoral college is CONSTITUTIONAL. Our founders didn't want a democracy because they didn't believe in the masses being able to make the right decisions at all times. The electoral college was meant to be a safeguard against electing a tyrant. Hopefully should the unthinkable happen the electoral college does their duty and not give Trump the light of day. On point of third parties, Lincoln was a third party. The hoops you have to jump through to be President are silly. The system is in fact rigged against anyone not in the R's or D's. I thought they only restriction to being President was Natural Born Citizen (which isn't defined), 35 years old, and lived in the USA for 14 consecutive years. All the other restrictions are meant to disenfranchise the non R's and D's.

Yes, I understand that the electoral college is constitutional. However, I also understand that it is CORRUPT. That is my point. I don't actually have a problem with a republic versus a democracy; my problem is the corruption that often comes along with a republic.

Well said sir, unfortunately too many people in this country need to be led and in their minds their natural leaders are the corporate media and the two corrupt corporate parties.

Usually a fan of Oliver, but this piece seems like a 'you must either vote for D or R' argument, which partly lead us to this mess in the first place. I hear this every single election, and we always end up voting corporate presidens..every..single..time (since the 1970s).
