This has been taught in the sea going services sense at least WWII. I learned it in the Coast Guard in 1974. And my father going in to the Coast Guard in 1941.

I know, but for the layman if I said "marine" they'd think he was still active duty, the ONLY reason I differentiated :D ("Living Legends" is taken ;) )

this made me laugh, Gerry.....I, on the other hand, went in the service with the ugliest dress uniform, to match my face. Accessorising knows no limits. No point having a pretty dress uniform when you have a face like a punched monkey. lol.
