It sounds like if the cop who shot behavior therapist Charles Kinsey (who was 100 percent complying to a fault) had to do it all over again, he'd do the exact same thing -- "I did what I had to do, four-year veteran Jonathan Aledda said in a written statement."

From NBC NEWS:

Kinsey, 47, said in an earlier interview with a local FOX affiliate that when he asked the officer why he opened fire, he said he didn't know.

Kinsey's attorney, Hilton Napoleon, said his client also heard another officer ask the same question.

"The shooting officer said he didn't know why he shot him," Napoleon said, according to NBC Miami.

He also questioned why Kinsey was handcuffed after he was shot.

it sounds like he IS an ubelievably poor shot, AND he panicked. The big question is how in hell this guy ever got license as a cop? he must have exhibited very poor judgement and marksmanship under pressure during his training, and should have flunked out. Whatever story this guy is sayin now..is just what his union and lawyer is telling him to do. If he "had to do it" then he will get off, but only if the jury or judge believe him. So he HAS TO BE convincing stating his ludicrous story, or he is going to jail for attempted murder.

@spanz The numbers don't support this. Laws are extremely skewed to protect police over the average citizens. I believe it's way under 10% of all police actually get prosecuted.

To make the cop's story even more unbelieveablre is he shot at the man 3 times from a distence of about 10 to 20 feet at the man (he said he was aiming at the autistic man) and missed the first two shots and hit the social worker on the third. Neither men were moving so either the cop is an extremely poor shot with criminally poor judgement or he is lying about his motives in shooting the caseworker. In either case this cop should be fired asap and held criminally responsible. Plus a recent update said the autistic man was so tramatised by this incident he will never recover

Are we getting that we need to rethink our police yet?

Well thank god. I'm glad this hero was doing his duty. That sounds like a great cop tactic. Shoot people to save them!

Too True. Just like the heroes who unloaded their guns on a suicidal man to stop him from stabbing himself. Here's The Story

I believe the official police policy on this is "Shoot them all. Let God sort them out."
