I-A-B Memo: Who Wants To Write About Interesting Stuff?

Submitted by: fancylad 1 year ago in Lifestyle
Ron-Swanson-Every-Word-I-Know

Hey I-A-B,

Just writing to see if anyone is interested in covering certain topics that I-A-B usually covers. With that said, I’m hoping a couple of you smarter than me in certain subject matter would be able to write about the following…

Republicans This person would write about all things GOP leading up to the POTUS election and beyond. What’s up in the world of Republicans? What did Trump do last night? What about Ted Cruz?

Democrats Same thing. What’s up with the Democrats today? What happened at the Clinton rally last night? What did Bernie say this morning? If something interesting happened, tell I-A-B.

Whatever Is there one topic that you’re incredibly passionate about that your fellow I-A-B readers would be into? TV critic? Game of Thrones reviewer? Buttholes? Let’s chat about it.

You don’t have to be Gore Vidal or Hunter S. Thompson, all you have to do it be passionate and somewhat even keeled. I’ll edit it and make you sound like a Pulitzer-prize winner.

This site is finally breaking even so this is on a volunteer basis, but I’ll make sure you get I-A-B t-shirts as new designs are printed, and get you a limited-edition I-A-B Space Invaders t-shirt (I have a handful left).

Just email me [email protected] for details.

Thanks, Fancy

I hope everyone can get along. We almost lost IAB once. Lets not lose it again. I learn so much from the really smart people in the comments. That's why I come back here everyday. I know I don't comment much, but I read most of the comments on the various posts. I would be lost without IAB and the great family that is here.

@ShelbyCobra: promise you, I-A-B isn't going anywhere and as of this week, traffic is up 300 percent. I've seen your user name around before -- comment more! Your comments are few and far between, but they're always smart.

Not that @fancylad needs any public support ... but damn he is telling the truth about his commitment. I see him most every day at the day job, and he's always sneaking in some Fancy posts. (Who can miss the black and purple?). Guy gets fueled up with a glass of red or a tumbler of whiskey, and then leaves all on this blacktop every day. And i have watched and appreciated @kitteh9lives contributions, especially when Demand owned it, and how she kept the spirit alive. Sorry you felt burned @kitten9lives.

You may not know all the details as they went down. I feel manipulated, tricked, and feel as though I was lied to. My contributions changed over the last few months and were not what I am totally capable of. Fancy had issue with content but gave no direction. I was left with going simple. simple posts that still got views.... as much as the top tens and the 40 captivating posts. Communication broke down. We used to be a great team, 5 years we were a great team. I wanted to help this site rise from the ashes. I had not been putting a huge effort into CHAOSTROPHIC until the last few months, but my seo shows the attention has paid off. Just think where it would be if I had been working on it the last 5 years as well. Again. I wonder why I was brought up and put down on this thread, it was unnecessary.

I willingly paid into the "Save IAB" fund and I did it solely because I could see how hard kitteh was working to keep this thing afloat. I have never paid into any other site and may never do again, that's how much I enjoyed coming here. And I came here purely for the banter. The posts were almost secondary to me. So, yes, this site is VERY different to all the others that post pics, vids etc. It didn't bother me what the source of each post was because I don't visit any of the others on a regular basis so this is where I would see content for the first time. And I tried to avoid just posting single pics. I often posted sciencey links because they were interesting. Not everyone agreed with the content but people were interested enough to comment. If there is another site with such a good community I have yet to find it. So I live in hope that this public row hasn't put a final nail in the coffin.

Can't reply to this right now -- super busy posting to i-a-b as well as making sure the trains run on time at the day job while j-dog's on the other side of the world at our international offices (we both work for the same company outside of i-a-b) so my time is scarce. i'll reply in detail to your email you just sent me though. plus, it's never good to go back and forth in front of the kids, or in this case, the readers.

Well it was to raise dosh if you remember, then it got sorted. I tried doing a selfie and looked rather more like old washing than much else- and my beloved daughter laughed like a drain when I suggested a tasteful pic of me in a bathing costume. In fact, she went away and was still chortling when she came back. that international content bit too--- um...

global news would be madduck on the pages of i-a-b in a bathing costume, or suit.

I seem to remember you promising to post sexy pics of yourself if IAB got saved from going down the tubes, madduck.....it might not help, but it certainly wouldn't hurt....and, it would be international content. YAY, we all win!! ;)

Thanks for responding fancy. It means a lot to us, to know we aren't ignored. I (we?) appreciate that you are busy. I know the feeling. Life gets in the way for all of us, but don't forget this site is named "i am bored". It's literally for people with a lot of time on their hands. Maybe the site needs more attention than you can give alone? And you have an army willing to help. Anyways, I'm sorry if I came out swinging. The difference between IAB (and the best part) is that people who complain about stuff do so because they care...unlike other sites where people just complain about stuff to be dicks. It's a compliment is a IAB sort of way. I know there is twitter, email, facebook, etc. but if you care about what we want there is no better place than the comments section. :) Hope to see you around.

turd, believe me -- if no one responded with biting remarks about how i've been screwing up, i'd be depressed, but like you said, the fact that people are upset is good, and it was something of a wake-up call for me. i am doing this all on my own with the help of submitters and as I said somewhere up above in this thread, i'm shifting my priorities and making i-a-b my number one focus and my regular job (the one that pays, but not enough) somewhere at number 3 or 4. i can't stress this enough: i-a-b is my one true love and when i found out demand media was literally going to swipe if from the internet (they weren't going to sell it, then i had to make an offer and take a loan out on my house -- yikes -- i did everything i could to save it. and here some fancy facts: if i didn't make the move from i-a-b to a middle-management position within demand media, there's no way i could afford to buy i-a-b. i think i was only away from i-a-b for a little less than a year, but i didn't like being away from the site. i was able to somehow grow i-a-b to the point where it was getting 2.5 million page views a day. for one person, getting 2.5 million page views a day was nuts -- i was considered some sort of boy genius at demand media. then greedy managers above me thought, "well fuck those dirtbags on i-a-b, if we put more ads on that site (remember those bullshit pop-ups of 2009?) it'll make us more money and cover department losses from out other sites like dailypuppy and golflink. when i was thinking about buying i-a-b after the announcement was to kill it, numbers were reduced to around 20,000 page views a day. I'm finally back up to about 150,000 day. i'm giving you guys way too much information, no other website would ever share numbers, but i just want to put it all out there. as much as you all love and miss I-A-B's glory days, i miss them 10 times more. but like i said over this past weekend, i'm throwing everything into i-a-b now. instead of watching tv or reading a book, i'll blast some music, partake in a little medical mj, and work on the site. if anyone wants to help as a mod, that great -- if not, that's great too, but i will put all my energy in making this site as great as possible.

Fancylad - I've always liked you and still do. Not that it matters much what I think. This place has potential. It just needs more attention. We're like kids needing more attention from or fancy dad. Keep IAB off the pole. Can you be our hero? ;)

@turdburglar: I will do everything I can. I've read every comment here. The thing is, if I don't post posts like these, I don't know exactly what you guys want. I sort of live in a vacuum. I just post, and work, and post, and work, and post, and sleep, and have very little time time to pop my head up and look at metrics or know what's working and what's not. So far, it looks like people want more reader submissions and more single photos. I can deliver on that. I can also deliver on more posts per day which means you'll be seeing more single-photo posts -- a lot more. Ha. I can get to 40 posts a day fairly easy if I do that. Quantity is EASY! Quality is a lot harder and that's where mosts sites like I-A-B fail. And I can take the shit I get in threads like this, how else am I gonna learn what you guys want? I won't fight back, because pissing matches in public forms are low rent and embarrassing for everyone involved, but I will say I appreciate all this feedback and like I said, I read every comment and all constructive criticism will be reflected in the forthcoming posts on the homepage. Thanks for the responses, T-burg.

Thank you for the responses, fancy. I know I kinda came out swinging, and you've been working hard, and kinda took a beating. Man, I appreciate what you do for us. Most of all, that. I can feel the passion. It's great. I disagree with how you feel about the pissing matches in the comments section here. It's IAB. It's how IAB is. There is no better place. It's how we know you are here. And I feel like it turned out well. I don't speak for IAB, but it's awesome to see you involved. It can only mean good things. These are compliments. (Well, from me, it's as close as I've ever come.)

Fancy, I lived, ate, and breathed IAB for the last 5 years. I was the one who had priviledged information on the sale of IAB. I was the one who wrote you about it trying to figure out how to save it. Only I and Demand media knew that it was shutting down, and I went crazy trying to do anything I could. I went through very stressful negotiations to wheedle the price down to an unbelievable amount. One they were willing to give me, since I only wanted to save the site and had good relations with Guo. Through your direction. Once I got it down, after many promises and affirmations, I feel kicked to the curb. Never having negotiated for websites before it was extremely stressful to me to do that. I became pysically ill over the entire situation, not to mention, being blackmailed behind the scenes. I didn't leave because I had too much on my plate, in fact I worked all of January for free because you said you needed help, so I tried to help. I guess, it wasn't much help though, if I am reading these comments right. I think you know why I left. I think you know why my work wasn't up to 'kitteh' standards the last few months. If not maybe we should have communicated better. I know I tried to.

Also, I can testify as a witness in small small small part to kitteh's hard work and stress for IAB. Specifically to the nutjobs blaming her for the sell and trashing/doxing her. A few Ex IAB members sent me emails claiming kitteh was scaming us with the IAB shutdown and sale. (time proved them wrong and crazy and fucking evil) They dug into her personal life. They were relentless. They even treatened me, and I didn't even have any involvement with anything but comment moderation. (Luckily I have almost 0 online presence other than IAB and chaostropic. They had nothing to threaten me with!) It's amazing what hate the internet can spawn. Add in a site that draws in bored people with time to spare, and it's a perfect shitstorm sometimes. I can only imagine what kitteh had to endure. It's sad to hear she was kicked to the curb for all that effort.

Thanks for that Turdie! The only people that know that know the whole story is Kitteh and Fancy. Neither one of them is talking about it. I know I got let go when Demand put the site up for sale to Kitteh. How Fancy ended up with it is, I am sure, a fantastic tale. He was gone for nearly two years and we did great, I thought. We never saw numbers because Demand had all that info. All we knew was post counts...hits to each post and they were great after adding them all up. Well at least that is what Kitteh told me. You can look up the ALEXA ranking (can't add a link sorry) and see how things are going before and after the whole debacle. I just wish it had worked out better. You have to move on though. Did anyone look at the Top 10 post veiws? WOW they went crazy today. It is going to be time consuming to pad those numbers with that plugin everyday though. Time would better spent trying to put up some GREAT content.

Well that's totally fucked up. I had no idea. I applaud kitteh's efforts to keep iab from certain doom. There always seems to be someone out there willing to just want to see the world burn and stir up a lot of bullshit to amuse themselves. I enjoy iab and everyone's contribution.

LOVE you kitteh. There's a lot of us who appreciated the work you did. You still do great work, which I and others appreciate daily. I never asked you about it, but I've always wondered what happened and if you were still in touch with fancy and IAB. Guess that I'm not the only one who doesn't communicate well.

There's several "anti-spam" things: asks for proof you're human? HEY! That's discrimination against us furry-folks!! (lolz) and then "Awaiting Moderation" and fnally... poof! Your comment just vanishes! The first two are seemingly random, I get 5-6 in a row? And go a week without seeing them. The last one (poof!) is usually because of "keywords" like Ixlam or Chixa... but sometimes it also seems to be random too... I copy every comment that might have a keyword, or ones that are just long! Lolz! Just in case...

Not a bad idea. Like everyone else here, I've been having difficulty submitting stuff to the point where I don't even try to submit anything. Plus, occasionally, I get a comment that doesn't show up once I submit it. I know you're working hard Fancy, and I know there are plenty of people here that want to help.

imo, it's throghput click ad revenue....If I posted Eric Bogle, Liam Clancy, The Dubliners, or Slim Dusty singing 'And the band played Waltzing Matilda' on (or near) April 25, would it go up as a post? Probably not, it wouldn't get that many hits. 'Cos so many people outside of Au, NZ, France or the UK (or Turkey, for that matter) know what it's referencing. No knowledge = no clicks = no ad revenue = no post. Any seppos even know what I'm talking about, out of curiousity?

Hello IAB...been a while since I have been on here. I was the Lead Content Moderator under Kitteh9lives for almost 3 years. I have over 2141 posts to my name and almost 3 years invested with the site under Kitteh. I worked hard for a great boss and the site, when she was running it, was doing great. You HAVE no idea the technical problems that we faced and how hard it was to even get a single post up everyday. But we managed to to do thousands buring my time here. Here are a couple of screen shots I could find on IAB to help verify myself. https://40.media.tumblr.com/2916c647d47dc0a0cc83e869fc23b097/tumblr_o49t21ZHMB1uuazk5o2_1280.png https://41.media.tumblr.com/2d7846e84d1cb2f108bb0c1539c1587b/tumblr_o49t21ZHMB1uuazk5o1_1280.png I had written "Fancy" in early December 2015 about coming back as a mod and helping out. He did reply saying "I am still trying to work the bugs in Wordpress" . A FACT... I am pretty good with Wordpress and responsed that "I would be glad to help out with whatever he needed...including Wordpress assistance". I have gotten no reply since then. I am not sure if it is because I now work for Kitteh (Payed BTW @ Chaostrophic.com) or that he forgot, but I am pretty upset I never recieved any kind of follow up. If you need free help so bad, why would you not get back to the mods(Uh Turdie comes to mind...I don't remember the rest) that were working the site when It got shut down? It wasn't our fault the site got shut down...It was Demand Media shutting down everything and selling it off. I DO NOT beleive the comments even get read anymore. I wish you the best of luck Fancy with IAB.

@ElectricEye, I don't know if Kitteh was top mod for two years, probably more like a year, but i do know all the tech issues that she dealt with, because I dealt with them for 6 years before her. I spent Christmas morning of 2009 dealing with tech guys trying to figure out why the site was down and nothing was working. It was a scheduling issue, if you're wondering -- programmng jargon. The reason why I didn't get back to you was because there were wordpress issues and I couldn't even properly program the site, so i didn't want you to have to deal with the issues. PLUS, i also have work with two other guys (sunny and the person you know as j-dog) and they wanted to hold off in bringing on anyone into the backend until we got our shit straightened out and as you can probably tell, shit's not straightened out. if you want to discuss further, email me -- there are a few things i rather not share in an open forum, but i'm more than happy to share with you in email. good luck with your site, btw.

Fancy, I started working for free in 2010. By 2012 you offered me a paid position. Somewhere in the next year you stopped coming on the site as much basically leaving it to me. Them you went to ehow and would randomly stop in once a month and post ehow articles. I was then working under Matthew for a year then Guo for about half a year+.

Hey EE, long time no see! Yeah, I think everyone is just more curious about the state of affairs after the arduous affair with Demand Media. Certainly no one is blaming any individual for anything that's currently happening. I just got my degree in Computer Science in December, and I barely have anything to do while job searching (except part time work), and while I have only minimum experience with WordPress, I believe myself more than capable to help out (would give me a visible 'portfolio' of sorts to show future employers)(I also did help moderate for about a year before the debacle).

Not really reporters. I used to visit IAB everyday about a year ago. I used to submit content and it would get posted up. Then everything went down and it was just old content reposted, which got old real fast. When it came back up I started coming back cause the posts were good again, funny and everyone would argue on stuff. It was kinda like a new IAB. New look and feel. Now it is slow maybe 10 posts a day, hardly no talking either. None of the stuff anyone turns in gets posted up and It seems like this new guy Fancy sure likes to tell everyone about himself and what he thinks is good or bad. I started coming here when Kitteh9lives was running things(I know she worked her ass off here) and no matter what, there was always something going on and much better stuff to read about. What happened to her anyways? She hasn't posted anything in months. I know she has her own site but she was doing both for years. I just lurk here mostly and not very often anymore but I think IAB should take a hard look back a few years and try to recreate that kind of place. It sure was fun back the day.

kitteh9lives has had another site for, actually, I don't know how long she's had it. I know she has a regular job, her own website, and then i was paying her to post 15 pieces of content here, but I think editing content on her site, i-a-b, dealing with her office job, and also being a parent was difficult for her. i can understand that her family and website come first, but the stuff she was posting on i-a-b in jan. and feb. couldn't have been very interesting for you guys -- it was basically 5 list posts copied and pasted from other websites and then 10 image posts. you can find her site at catostrophic.com.

one of my sites is CHAOSTROPHIC.com (just one I have 5) I worked that site since 2010, and it never hampered my work here on IAB. The last 6 months were tense because of reasons I would rather not air out here, because I don't like to hurt people in public. If anyone wants to know, I can talk by email.

Uncle-B, the "refried" content was after Demand Media (or whoever it was) pulled the plug on Kitteh9 and her crew (minus FancyLad who'd gone to a different job). It wasn't anyone at IAB's fault. Kittteh9 had vowed to put up 20 new things a day, or some other impressive number. It's a tough job tho! Sadly? It shows her as "inactive" for 6 weeks now. >>>I still love IAB, but wish there were paragraphs & stuff! Lolz!

Wow, it really bums me out to see all these people saying they submit so much content and hardly any of it gets posted. Mainly because I was just thinking to myself the other day when I was on here that there doesn't seem to be that much content getting uploaded daily. Content doesn't even start getting put up until around noon and then there's maybe 10 posts for the day and that's it. I would just say fuck it and post pretty much all submissions just so we can get some stuff to look at. I am bored, and you're not helping. I did just notice the new action bar at the top when you log in though, and that's pretty slick, I'll give you that. More international news for sure. And the climate science denial stuff is just to get different perspectives up -- no matter how bananas they are.

What do you call them? I'm a programmer, and technically they are CRLF, which stands for Carriage Return + Line Feed. I don't know how else to describe them!

What do I call them? Carriage returns, also. I just haven't heard that term in such a long time (back in the days when we used to take a piece of paper, wind it into a marvelous 'word machine', and bang on keys, to make words appear. Then, at the end of each line, we would 'swipe left' on a large metal prong, and at the end of each paragraph, would 'swipe left' twice). lol. You are absolutely correct in your terminology, it's just something that you don't hear so often, nowadays. Soft break (aka line break), and hard break (aka para break) are more commonly used, at least in Aus... English is a funny language... so many terms for the same thing, and varying throughout the English speaking world. eg. ,,,Au Eng: 'Trump' = 'dickhead'. In En Eng: 'Trump' = 'twat'. In US Eng: 'Trump' =' comb-over master demigod who can save the world, even though he's mentally retarded'. See, same language, different meanings...I think it's to do with the accent.... So, I'll throw another toupee on the barbie....

Why are carriage returns removed from the comments? It makes the longer comments harder to read. No need to do that. Try this :-) comment.replace(crlf,"")

Don't forget that there is a world outside of America. We don't know WTF republicans or democrats even are! I love the "intelligent" posts about science, gadgets, magic, TED talks, math(s). And occasionally boobs of course. But not fake ones. Thank you. 10Bears from England

My 2c is that there needs to be more international content...look, my post count might be low, but I've been a member on here...well, as far as I can figure it, not long after IAB's creation. Davymid (RIP) used to post a number of non-North American--centric stuff. Ferdyfred has also done so in the last 18 months (but has been silent for a while). i remember, at one point, back in maybe '08 (ish?), a call went out for mods (and content providers) in different parts of the world.... But now, IAB has devolved, for the most part, into a very US-cenrtic thing (although at least one of my submissions went through). Politics, and cultural references that, whilst people on different continents are aware of, we don't really give a damn about. 5cats (not trying to call you out, but, just stating an example), may consider the POTUS candidates to be incredibly relevant due to his 'tugboat theory', but in the rest of the world, outside of the North American continent, the simple fact of the matter is that the US no longer holds that much political, economic, or even cultural importance....As an Australian, as an example, I don't give a damn who the POTUS is. I'm more concerned about the Chinese economy, or even the protracted drought in Vietnam...it has a lot more direct relevence in my life than anything happening in the States....Sorry, guys, but the US is much less relevant to me than it was 20, or even 10 years ago. And I'm sure the same applies to many of the Europeans here....our interest is as outsiders looking in, rather than having a vested interest. And your constant bitching about gun control? I can sum that one up in four simple words....with two options. "Show some personal responsibility"; or, alternatively, "With rights comes responsibility" I could go on all day, but I won't. (Drops mic, walks off stage)...

Oh, about the topic? (hee hee, I get there eventually!) I have been too sick (mentally, I'm disabled eh?) in the past to contribute as a Mod here, it's true. IDK if I'm able to now? >>> And I'm facing surgery in May (3rd time, losing teeth now) so... stress! >>>But if you need content? I usually have a ton of stuff! Even more than I submit ;-) >>>Always been willing to help in times of desperation! Even if I'm not well enough to do so properly...

I have piles of old submissions saved, they might be outdated, probably were passed over before, but many are 'timeless' eh? I could start adding those too... oh some are from the 'Demand Era' of no content too, still old but might be 'fresh'.

I have to admit that this post of yours is with good intention. You're trying to make IAB better. I've complained about your absence inside the very post where you are trying to be more present and active. I'd always like to think I'm willing to change my opinion, and I'm quite often wrong, so I apologize in advance if I wake up tomorrow and realize I'm being drunken belligerent. I just REALLY think IAB has other issues more important of your limited time than politicizing IAB more.

More politics? That's the idea? Really fancy? It's an obvious plea for content. How about taking submissions from users again? I stopped awhile ago because nothing got put up. No explanation email like the old days, just ignored. After dozens of subs with the new IAB, and being ignored, I stop submitting and others have too. And my subs were never political, I posted interesting stuff. Go look at the old records (if you still have them). Plus... It's apparent that you don't visit IAB's comments section hardly at all, because people have complaints and you don't respond. Remember the mods? The ones who worked with kitteh after you abandoned IAB the last time...the ones who submitted tons of junk, did a way better job than the horrible racist filter we have now, and kept things civil without going nuts with the banhammer? FUCK! I DONATED A BIG CHUNK OF CASH when IAB asked, and so did other loyals. You promised special privileges for those who stuck by and donated and waited and waited and waited. Instead you ignore us, not even a single email. You say you put your heart and soul to bring IAB back, but honestly it feels like you aren't here except to post a few pics and not comment. Sorry to vent, but this seems like the most likely place you will ever read this comment. Still love IAB. Still love you fancy. Wouldn't be here if I/we didn't. But please, pay attention to us. I see this post as a attempt to make IAB better, but it's also WAY OUT OF TOUCH with what needs to be fixed. If you want to know what to do with IAB, just listen to what we've already gave up on saying all this time. Don't make us vote TRUMP for chairman of the bored.

Great post, TB. That pretty much sums up why I have all but given up. Apart from the tech issues I was having. Like you, I appreciate it can't be easy for Fancy but every other post is now a collection of pics and memes from other sites masquerading as Fancy's hard drive.

I was skeptical at the plan kitteh9 & EE had to post so much, eh? But they did it! I was impressed. I was happy to send tons of stuff :-) Not all was put up, of course, lolz! Not even half! But still: if it was "IAB Worthy" I could submit & feel confident. >>>Lately FancyLad's been dipping into the submissions a lot more, and a variety of stuff (not just from me!) is getting put up! :-) That's what makes IAB fun: variety! Not every post is a "home run" for sure, but take a few chances, you never know.

it was only that way for the last couple weeks. now that kitteh is gone, the early part of this month was me readjusting my schedule so i could put in 10 to 12 hours at the office and another 6 to 8 on I-A-B. As of this week, I'm finally finding a little balance and I'm getting close to 20 posts up every day. I mean, i can do what kitteh did which was copy/paste other websites' lists and articles and than post 10 single images to pad the number of daily posts, but I'd rather throw the bulk of the images together in one post.

The singular pic posts were pretty popular actually. They appealed to the attention defecit masses, who could quickly flip through the posts with the 'next' arrow, along with those that went looking for them specifically. I used to submit quite a few, and they faired quite well in the daily top ten.

When i was posting 40 posts a day maybe 5 max were single pics. MAX, 5. I did a lot more than that. For some reason I cant reply directly to fancy so i will put this here.

I do agree that grouping them together is more convenient (I also submitted compilations I stumbled across). However, I think just a few scattered helps to bolster the number of posts a bit (Never saw complaints of not enough posts), and may help 'carry' the average user further down the page to explore.

It kinda sounds like YOU are the one complaining about having to much on your plate. I never heard Kitteh whining about how much time she spent at her jobs outside of IAB, not once. The thing you don't get is that, Kitteh posted members submissions and then she filled in the rest with content she thought the MEMBERS would like and want to see. "i can do what kitteh did which was copy/paste other websites' lists and articles" ...You already do that but not as well. Do you really think anyone believes You took all those pictures on "your hardrive" posts? No...you copied or downloaded them from the internet. No difference at all.

@fancylad You should steer the site in the direction that you think is best. It is way diiferent now than I was working on it. When I was working on here, VERY FEW posts were original content. We did have some original posts that we made. Kitteh did a lot more of those I ever did. Richanddead was a good content mod. Turdburgler was getting rolling as a content mod when it all crashed down. Some members submited original works they were trying to promote as well. There was user submitted and the rest was sourced from the internet. The best stuff we could find. Having a minimum of 40 posts a day made it impossible to create ,write ,research and format anything original. (If you remember all the glitches in the CMS). What the readers at IAB were wanting and were getting was good viral content from all over the internet. They wanted to come to the site that did all the work for them, instead of having to go to 50 or 100 sites and searchs, it was all there for them to veiw and comment on. IAB was founded on other people's work ie. a list of links, if you remember. "every site should have it's own take and identity" I agree with that and IAB has become Fancy.com now.

I don't even understand why I was mentioned in this thread. Fancy was looking for help, and that should have been the extent of the conversation. I was notified that fancy was talking poorly about me by a member on my site, CHAOSTROPHIC, so I came to see what the hubub was all about and then I noticed the disparaging comments about my content. My content that had been fine for 5+ years, until now. After I left. When I was brought on I was not picked up as 'a writer' I was someone who was good at finding content that appealed to a wide audience. Again, not as a 'writer'. I have done the same thing as far as content goes since I have been here. Nothing changed, until fancy bought the site. Then he started changing my content and the content of submitters. The titles, the images, basically everything, but with no explanation. So I wrote and asked him why, so I could learn what he wanted. He said, "Everything was fine, just keep doing what your doing." weeks later, it started again. Corrections, with no explanations, again, wanting to learn what exactly he wanted, he states, "everything is fine, keep doing what you are doing." I wanted to do what he wanted, I asked several times, but he never would tell me what exactly he desired. I have the emails, if needed to verify. Hard to work that way. Even when I would post the hotlinks to CHAOSTROPHIC (that was in our contract) he would change my titles and then bury my post 10 deep, to keep it below the fold, so it would't be as visible. The chive rode the top of the page though. Chaostrophic was there, when IAB went down. I was there, when IAB went down. I offered updates and entertainment as much as I could. I wrote people, I was threatened, as were my children, for standing up for and standing by this site. The chive wasn't and where are they now? still helping out as an integral part of the rebuilding? Or gone like the wind? The site was a broken mess when it was handed over to me. I wanted to save it. I loved it. I worked really hard to get it back up and running. Meanwhile demand kept piling on the ads. Who can forget the 'flip ad' debacle? The ads that wopuld pop up from your comments? They were the worst. Guo told me the site was making a $100,000+ a month profit when I ran it. I know the site was ranked close to 20,000 in global popularity at that time. It isn't now. Demand let it go because the entire site was written on cold fusion and they were't wanting to invest the time and effort to move the site over to word press especially when they were shaking up the entire company and selling off almost all their sites. Cracked was for sale as well. I was promised partnerships and huge percentages for negotiating for IAB before the final deal went down. When I reminded fancy the contract was up, he told me they were working on my new one, please just work until the end of January, until we can get it in order. Why would you tell me what I was doing was great, keep up the good work, if you hated it so much? Why keep me around for 5 years? I hate that this is being handled this way on an open forum, when I begged you several times to communicate with me and explain what you wanted and I would deliver it. This is extremely unprofessional. Why air this here? Why couldn't you just write me? I wrote you. I told you my concerns and worries. And as far as entertaining people, I don't think they care where it comes from, as long as it entertains. When I left the posts were getting 20,000+ views a day. Every post. every day. Do the math 40 posts x 20,000 views, So someone liked it. The single pic argument is a strange one. Reddit thrives on single pics. One of the largest sites on the internet DOES SINGLE PICS. Not as a padding, but because people like it. Imgur... Single pics, again. A slide show , having to click next, next, next, next, next, is the same as seeing single pics... next next, next, isn't it really? whats the big difference? Other than you putting me down for spending my time looking for interesting pics vids and articles to put up that I thought everyone liked, because you said 'keep up the good work, you are doing great." He won't answer me on here as well..... Why are you attacking me on here? I shouldn't have to defend myself, and I never thought I would have to defend myself against you. My friend. The one I called for help when they fucked IAB. The one I handed IAB to on a silver platter. The one that was happy with my work all these years until now. I would still help. Because I love the site. Again, the reply button to fancy is missing so I am pinning this here close to where he answered electric eye

@ElectricEye, I never said she said anything, and I won't go into detail about that here because it's not cool to anyone involved. And I'm not complaining about "too much on my plate." I was just giving people an explanation so they don't think I'm just smoking weed and letting I-A-B slide. As you'll notice, more reader submissions are going up, but I've never thought for a second people think I've taken any photos on the Hard Drive pics or any other pics unless where I stated I took them. But I also don't want I-A-B readers to get 20 or so posts where 10 to 15 links are single photos, another 5 posts are about politics, and the rest of the posts are word-for-word copy-and-paste jobs from sites like listverse and thrillist. People can just go to listverse to see that content. If a site like I-A-B (and I know there are billions of sites like I-A-B) is going to post an article by listverse, or any site that creates original content, it's a hard pill to swallow when the words and images are exactly the same as the source it's coming from. Sorry, but that's not cool and if another site took my work, copy-and pasted it word for word on their site, i'd be very upset, even if they gave me a tiny hyperlinked credit buried at the bottom of the page. It may have a credit at the bottom, but is that what readers want? Maybe I'm the idiot and that IS what people want. In that case, maybe I should just start copying and pasting complete articles from The Onion, the New York Times, Vice, and so on and so forth. I think posting an article from another site is great, but every site should have it's own take and identity. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's the truth -- websites that post content that have been copied-and-pasted word-for-word is sorta lazy. If you can't admit that, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. If I'm wrong about that, everyone please let me know.

@turdburglar Yep, I know -- I'm on board with everything you said. Trying to juggle a 60+ hour a week job and I-A-B has been getting really crazy the last couple weeks. It's literally just me now. I'm trying to get new products pushed, but it's an uphill battle (if you can email me at [email protected], i want to talk to you about it). This month has been a fucking nightmare with me trying to keep up with I-A-B. I can assure you, this site means way more to me than anything else I do -- more than my day job, that's for sure. If I could, I'd quit my job and focus on I-A-B 100%, but that's impossible right now. The site make just enough to cover servers and related fees. (This is actually the first month it gets close to breaking even. ) And that's why I'm asking for anyone who wants to contribute a unique voice to certain topics that I can't always get to -- there are people here who are a lot more knowledgable about politics than me -- I feel like it's a little unfair to spout off with my uneducated points of view when there are others who know far more than me. As for reader-submitted content, it's hard to keep up with, but I'll make a point of getting more up.

I have noticed the same thing. I keep submitting content some probably get's rejected which is fine, but it does seem like once in a while nothing get's through. I dunno how that process works anymore so maybe it was simply my topics not being accepted. Also the formatting fix the formatting=(
