I remember Robotech, I ordered the vhs through Palladium Books and Harmony Gold back in the day. I have some fond memories of going to little tokyo and renting anime, mostly ranma 1/2, those crazy aliens: I feel old but I really havent seen any anime on par with those I saw from the 80s and early 90s outside of anime films.

The last good film I saw was Howls Moving Castle. Saw there was a new studio ghibli out, any good? Anything else out there that`s good?

""Oh, that`s the movie Westerners Like.""
The English dub, as it was in the early 90`s, had a running theme of `something the little people were trying to say that was so weird, the audience couldn`t pick it up.`
I liked the film as opera. You can just watch the visual and score with no dialog and it still makes sense.

I don`t think it was marketing, I think it was accidental. It had to do with it being stocked by video rental stores which accidentally introduced people too young to have seen Robotech to that source of animation.

I remember asking a Japanese guy years ago if he`d seen it. He was like what`s Akira, and I explained it briefly and his reply was, "Oh, that`s the movie Westerners Like.". I like the movie a lot except for its Middle and Final acts (it gets real effing slow) but it seems like we like it alot because of advertising? I mean it was the first japanese animation i ever rented that was dubbed, everything else I saw before Akira was in its native language or had Chinese subs and I had to rent them from the non-english speaking video stores. When I rented "Wicked City" my 10 year old mind exploded.

"I like the original much more."
What stuck with me operatically was the intro of the Clowns` leader.

The image and sound of him riding, no hands, is what I see when I think of the movie title, more so than the prototype bike.

Pretty good. Was that Fred Armisen playing Takashi? This was nice, but I like the original much more.
